RAISE THE RUTH Ruth's hand is
raised after winning the 2013 184pound NCAA title in Des Moines, Iowa.
Inset, Sanderson posted a photo on
Twitter of the wound he received
from Ruth on April 2.
Arts, too. "But that definitely comes
after the Olympics," he said.
Ruth's coach can envision him having
success in MMA. "You see him in the
back [of the practice room]," Sanderson
said. "We have a punching bag back
there. I don't know who keeps putting
it up, but you see him back there
punching it and kicking it. So I can
see him going MMA. He's got good
speed, and his hands are huge."
But Sanderson, too, said any MMA
venture should wait until after the
Olympics – which, depending on the
International Olympic Committee's decision about the sport's future as part
of the Summer Games, could be as
soon as 2016.
"If I'm [Team USA wrestling coach]
Zeke Jones, Ruth is on your shortlist
of guys who can actually win a gold
medal," Sanderson said. "There aren't
a lot of kids who really have the ability
to do that. Ruth does."
After that freestyle workout in early
April, which left Sanderson bloodied
and dizzy, you have to take his word
for it.
