4 CAVALIER CORNER Dear Cavalier Fan, The first several months of 2021 have certainly been busier than ever. Winter sports are concluding and spring sports are competing amidst continuing competition for fall sports. Our student-athletes and coaches are working hard to stay healthy and we all hope to welcome back fans soon. Until then, remember that you can watch game highlight videos, read the latest sport news, keep up with team schedules, and virtually meet student- athletes in Get to Know the Hoos videos on This spring we are feeling even more motivated to reach our next set of goals to benefit our sports programs. The 2021 Annual Fund materials should have arrived by mail and email. If you haven't received the information, please contact our office. As you know, the pandemic and the associated economic volatility have impacted traditional athletic department revenue streams, making the importance of donor contribu- tions even more profound. Annual giving continues to be the primary source funding our athletics scholarship expense, which is projected to be $22 million this year. Gifts made early in the year help us prepare for the quarterly scholarship payments, so we encourage you to make a gift in the spring if you are able! Your support is needed now more than ever. Our staff was truly humbled by the overwhelming support from our incredibly gener- ous donors in 2020. The Annual Fund breakdown below is a remarkable reflection of how many loyal donors contributed to our efforts. These donor numbers exclude match- ing gifts. We hope many of you will do the same this year and those of you who could not give last year will rejoin us this year! 2020 Giving Level Number of Donors in 2020 Scholarship Society Out-of-State ($67,500) 10 Scholarship Society In-State ($33,000) 44 Champions Club ($25,000) 46 Commonwealth Club ($15,000) 137 V Club ($7,500) 529 Captains Club ($5,000) 572 Orange & Blue Club ($3,500) 493 Coaches Club ($1,750) 889 Cavalier Club ($750) 1,018 Wahoo Club ($350) 1,042 Sabre Club ($100) 3,192 VAF Contributor < ($99) 652 In addition to generous Annual Fund results, we saw a substantial increase in endowed scholarship support. Many donors took advantage of the University's Bicentennial Scholars matching funds program to enhance our efforts to fund scholarships and to create a family legacy within Virginia Athletics. Matching funds are still available for new endowed scholarship commitments beginning with commitments of $100,000 (paid over five years, if desired). If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, please contact a member of our staff. The University's Board of Visitors recently approved the revised schematic design for the Athletics Master Plan. This ambitious and exciting project will include a new Foot- ball Operations Center, located between the McCue Center and the George Welsh Indoor Practice Facility. Once the football program moves out of the McCue Center, which they have occupied since 1990, the McCue Center will be renovated, and the Olympic Sports Center will be built adjacent to it. These new spaces will complete the Athletics Master Plan. The timeline will be dependent on fundraising success. We will share more details as soon as they are available. We look forward to seeing everyone in the near future as fans return to the stands and we return to our office. Thank you for your continued passionate generosity which is having a profound impact on our student-athletes and coaches. Sincerely, Dirk P.
