But the Nittany Lions were on a roll heading into their /rst-round matchup against visiting Johns Hopkins on May 1, having pulled o0 rousing come-from-behind wins over Michigan and Ohio State in their last two regular-season games to earn the tournament's third seed. The last two rounds of the conference tourney will take place in Panzer Stadium with or without Penn State, though the Nittany Lions would certainly prefer the former. They won the most recent Big Ten tourney in dramatic fashion, defeating Johns Hop- kins, 18-17, in overtime. But that was two years ago. Last year's tournament was can- celed due to the pandemic, cutting short a season in which PSU had been hoping to build on its appearance in the NCAA semi/nals in 2019. This season, Penn State has not been as pro/cient o0ensively as it was the past few years. Even as standout senior Mac O'Keefe was breaking the NCAA record for most career goals, the Nittany Lions were struggling, ranking last in the Big Ten in scoring o0ense with an average of 10.4 goals per game during the regular season. If they're going to prevent one of their Big Ten rivals from leaving University Park with the league's championship trophy, that number will need to improve. –M.H.
