sk NC State redshirt sopho-
more linebacker Payton
Wilson if he can remember
his life without sports, and
the answer will be quick and
easy.
"Not at all," Wilson
stated.
He started wrestling when he was 4 years
old and began playing football two years
later. Along the way to Raleigh, he tried
them all: baseball, basketball, soccer and
even lacrosse in high school.
Sports were a family affair. Bryce, his
older brother of three years, similarly was
active in athletics.
"Growing up we were both very hyper
kids, and my dad wanted to get us in sports,"
Wilson recalled.
Now they are both on the verge of becom-
ing legends in Hillsborough, N.C.
Bryce is a pitcher for the Atlanta Braves,
bypassing college to sign with them after
being a fourth-round draft pick in 2016. He
made his Major League Baseball debut two
years later, still shy of his 21st birthday.
