His Penn State scholarship enabled him to get into the 6- nance industry with a marketing degree while he became a consensus 6rst-team All-American in 1999. Short spent 6ve of his seven years in the NFL with the New York Giants. Following his retirement from football at the end of the 2006 season, he went into sports broadcasting and then spent two years working toward his MBA, which he re- ceived from Columbia in 2010. That led him to Wall Street, where he worked for Goldman Sachs in the real estate invest- ment banking section, and his post-foot- ball career took o!. When his wife, Mahreen, became a partner with a private equity company in Dubai in 2012, Short transferred from New York to the Goldman Sachs oBce in that city, which is located along the Per- sian Gulf near Iran. A;er a year, he co- founded a specialized 6nancial business in Dubai, and about three years later he le; the Middle East for London to be part of the Cerberus European real estate in- vestment team. A;er another four years, Short became the director of mergers and acquisitions at Round Hill Capital, where he has led the purchase and sale of real estate companies and managed corpo- rate-level 6nancings. A few weeks a;er our telephone con- versation, Short accepted a position as executive director and portfolio manager with PGIM Real Estate, a division of Pru- dential Insurance. He will be based in the New York area, moving back to the United States with his wife and their children, Miriam, 5, and Noah, 3. His oldest daughter from a previous rela- tionship, Karli, 25, works at a nursing home in McKeesport. Since the trustees meeting in February, Short has heard from many former Penn State players. "The vast majority support us doing this," he said. "But to be clear, we are talking about a philosophical argu- ment about investing in athletics. We can't be le; behind." ■
