• The Cavaliers won ACC regular-season titles in men's basketball and men's tennis. • Women's soccer advanced to its fourth NCAA College Cup, appearing in the Final Four for the first time since 2014. • Virginia rowed to a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships, its 17th in 23 appearances. • Men's basketball claimed its 10th ACC regular-season championship and earned its school-record seventh straight NCAA Tournament appearance. • Men's swimming and diving finished ninth at the NCAA Championships, mark- ing the team's best finish since 2011. • Men's and women's tennis each ad- vanced to the NCAA's round of 16. • Women's lacrosse advanced to the NCAA second round. • Eight wrestlers qualified for the NCAA Championships with redshirt fourth-year Louie Hayes placing eighth to become the 23rd All-American in the program's history. • The state-of-the-art Virginia Tennis Complex at the Boar's Head Sports Club opened for the 2021 season. INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS • Fourth-year Paige Madden won three NCAA individual titles and helped UVA to a gold medal in the 800 free relay. • Redshirt fourth-year Michaela Meyer became the first female competitor in UVA track and field history to win an individual NCAA title, capturing the 800 meters at the NCAA Championships. • First-year Emma Navarro captured the NCAA singles championship, joining Dani- elle Collins (2014 and 2016) as Cavaliers to win the event. • Navarro was named ITA National Rookie of the Year, ACC Women's Tennis Freshman of the Year and Atlantic Region Rookie of the Year. • Graduate student Carl Söderlund was named ACC Men's Tennis Player of the Year and the Atlantic Region Senior of the Year. • Fellow tennis standout Jeffrey von der Schulenburg was named the Atlantic Region Rookie of the Year. • Thrower Claudio Romero was named the ACC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Freshman of the Year. • Women's swimming and diving head man Todd DeSorbo was named the Na- tional Coach of the Year and ACC Women's Swimming Coach of the Year. • Andres Pedroso was named ACC Men's Tennis Coach of the Year and Wilson ITA Atlantic Region Coach of the Year. • Kevin Sauer was named ACC Rowing Coach of the Year. • Virginia's Varsity Eight was named ACC Crew of the Year. • Virginia baseball threw the program's seventh no-hitter on May 14 against Wake Forest. Fourth-year Andrew Abbott pitched 7 1 ⁄3 innings and struck out 16 batters, while rookie Jake Berry and fourth-year Griff Mc- Garry combined to get the final five outs. The no-hitter was the first thrown in an ACC game since 2014. • Men's soccer third-year Bret Halsey headlined a NCAA-high five selections in the MLS SuperDraft in January 2021. The midfielder was selected seventh overall by Real Salt Lake. A total of eight Cavaliers have been selected in the MLS SuperDraft over the last two seasons, the most of any college soccer program. 2020-21 DIRECTORS' CUP FINAL STANDINGS NCAA championships in men's la- crosse and women's swimming and diving propelled Virginia to an 11th- place finish in the final 2020-21 Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup competition. UVA was second among ACC schools (North Carolina was No. 4) and placed in the top 25 for the 14th consecutive year. Virginia is now one of 10 schools to rank in the top 30 of the final Di- rectors' Cup standings every year in the 27-year existence of the program. (The Directors' Cup was not awarded in 2020 due to the pandemic.) Points in the Directors' Cup stand- ings are earned by a school's NCAA postseason finish in 19 sports, four of which must be men's and women's basketball, baseball and volleyball. Rk.
