Coan thought he had another connection with Mayer that would have put the Irish in field goal range, but Mayer dropped it. Coan's Hail Mary heave was intercepted as time expired in regulation. That made Florida State's field goal attempt a much more manageable 37-yarder, but redshirt freshman Ryan Fitzgerald missed it to the left.
