The two dynamics converged at Notre Dame on Sept. 12, 2012, when it was announced the Fighting Irish would leave the Big East and join the Atlantic Coast Conference. All Fighting Irish sports but football and hockey will compete in the ACC starting with the 2013-14 academic year, and then in 2014 the football program will align as a partial-football member. "Partial" means the following: • Notre Dame is required to play five ACC members each year, rotating with three at home and two on the road one year, and then two at home and three on the road the next. 2013 Notre Dame Football Schedule Date Aug. 31 Sept. 7 Sept. 14 Sept. 21 Sept. 28 Oct. 5 Oct. 19 Oct. 26 Nov. 2 Nov. 9 Nov. 23 Nov. 30 Opponent (TV) Temple (NBC) at Michigan (ABC) at Purdue (ABC) Michigan State (NBC) Oklahoma (NBC) vs. Arizona State^ (NBC) Southern California (NBC) at Air Force (CBSSN) Navy (NBC) at Pittsburgh (ABC) Brigham Young (NBC) at Stanford (FOX) Time (ET) 3:30 p.m. 8 p.m. 8 p.m. 3:30 p.m. 3:30 p.m. 7:30 p.m. 7:30 p.m. 5 p.m. 3:30 p.m. TBA 3:30 p.m. TBA ^ Shamrock Series at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas • Each of the 14 other league members will be played by Notre Dame during the first three-year rotation from 2014-16. • During the second three-year rotation from 2017-19, each of the 14 league members will have played the Fighting Irish at home and in Notre Dame Stadium at least once. On April 19, the ACC announced its first three-year football rotation (2014-16) with Notre Dame, although dates are still to be announced. Three non-conference games re- mained untouchable for Notre Dame: Navy, Stanford and USC. However, the Michigan series will cease after the 2014 meeting at Notre Dame, and with the Big Ten moving to a nine-game conference schedule, Purdue and Michigan State also appear to be less likely to meet the Irish yearly. Purdue has played Notre Dame every year since 1946 (as have Navy and USC), while Michigan State has been on the Irish schedule every year but three since 1949. Future Notre Dame Schedules 2014 ACC Home Games: Louisville, North Carolina and Wake Forest. ACC Road Games: Florida State and Syracuse (at East Rutherford, N.J.). Seven Tentative Non-Conference Games: Purdue, Michigan, Stanford and Northwestern at home, and road games versus Temple, Navy (Nov. 1 at FedEx Field in Landover, Md.) and USC (Nov. 29). Numerous reports have speculated that the tentatively scheduled Oct. 25 game at Arizona State might be cancelled. 2015 ACC Home Games: Boston College and Georgia Tech. ACC Road Games: Clemson, Pitt and Virginia. Seven Tentative Non-Conference Games: Home games could include Texas, Temple, UMass, Navy and USC, while the road trips feature Purdue and Stanford. 2016 ACC Home Games: Duke, Miami and Virginia Tech. ACC Road Games: North Carolina State and Syracuse. Seven Tentative Non-Conference Games: This would include the return match at Texas (tentatively for Sept. 3) and closing at USC (Nov. 26), plus a home game against Stanford and a site to be determined against Navy. How the other three will shake out from there is to be determined. 12 ✦ blue & gold Illustrated 2013 Football Preview 4-6,8,10-17.Under The Dome.indd 12 6/25/13 4:50 PM
