When it's all said and done, that could end up being the final number for the current recruiting cycle. But with two-and-a-half months re- maining, there's a lot that has to play out still, which is why James Franklin and his assistant coaches haven't let up at all with some of the nation's top re- maining prospects in the class. If his- tory tells us anything, a decommitment or two is possible. As of the first week of September, de- fensive tackle Zane Durant was the only player to take a visit elsewhere follow- ing his commitment in July, attending UCF's season opener against Boise State on Sept. 2. In addition, Miami is still working to get Durant on campus, so that could be something to watch in the weeks and months ahead. Only time will tell if other players end up taking visits elsewhere, let alone open up their recruitments. But even if all 24 prospects hold firm and sign with the Nittany Lions during the early pe- riod in December, it's possible that Penn State could still add a few more players in the class. The player to watch in the imme- diate future is offensive lineman An- dre Roye from St. Frances Academy in Baltimore. Last month, the 6-foot- 6, 320-pound offensive tackle an- nounced that he's aiming to wrap up his recruitment on Sept. 22, and with about a week to go before his decision, all signs pointed to Roye sticking with that commitment date. A three-star pros- pect according to Ri- vals.com, Roye has a top four of Penn State, Maryland, North Car- olina State and Rut- ge rs. At t h e e n d o f July, he visited all four of those schools un- officially in the span of a few days. He also took official visits to Penn State, Arizona State, Maryland and Rutgers in June. The Sun Devils no longer appear to be in the mix following the announce- ment that they're under investigation for recruiting violations. Roye isn't one to open up much about his recruitment, but most of our colleagues believed in early September that he was leaning toward the Nittany Lions and Terrapins. We believe Penn State may have a slight edge. But even if the Lions were to miss out on Roye, offensive tackle Aamil Wagner is also still in play, although he's not expected to make a commitment until January.
