onsidered a game-breaking
threat on every play as an Irish
tailback, and remembered as
a state champion sprinter at
Thomas Dale High School near Rich-
mond, Va., Irish sophomore tailback
Chris Tyree has known for a long time
that he's fast, really fast.
But when Tyree was recently in-
formed by a reporter that he reached a
measured foot speed of 21.9 mph dur-
ing a 55-yard touchdown catch against
Toledo, even the fastest man on the Irish
roster offered a surprised smile and
sigh, then re-gathered himself.
"I just know that I have to run fast,"

Sophomore tailback Chris Tyree is proving this season
that he's more than just a straight-line speedster
