Service Alerts USPS Service Alerts have information for consumers, small businesses and business mailers about postal facility service disruptions caused by weather-related and other natural disasters, special events, or other changes impacting service. Visit www.ready.gov or www.listo.gov to prepare for hurricanes and severe weather. IMPLEMENTATION OF FIRST-CLASS MAIL AND PERIODICALS SERVICE STANDARD CHANGES – OCTOBER 1, 2021 On October 1, the Postal Service implemented new service standards for First-Class Mail and Periodicals which will increase delivery reli- ability, consistency, and efficiency for our customers and across our network. Most First-Class Mail and Periodicals will be unaffected by the new service standard changes. Standards for single-piece First-Class Mail traveling within a local area (within 3 hours by truck) will continue to be two days. Mail traveling the greatest distances will be most affected, with a day or two of transit time added for some First-Class Mail and Periodicals. We'll make better use of our trucks and existing surface network to move the mail, relying less on costly air transportation. By improving service reliability and increasing efficiency, we can keep costs at reasonable levels and help keep postage rates affordable for our customers. For more information, visit the Delivering for America page for the First Class/Periodical Service Standard Fact Sheet at https://about.usps. com/what/strategic-plans/delivering-for-america/assets/USPS-Fact-Sheet_FCM-Service-Standard-Change.pdf IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM USPS PLEASE READ We would like to assure our Blue & Gold Illustrated subscribers that our standards for preparing your issues for mailing are not changing. The writers and editors of Blue & Gold Illustrated produce the game stories and notes immediately after each game, regardless if it's a noon game or a night game. Then the production department takes over and has the paper ready and sent electronically to the printer in Milford, Ind., by 10:00 a.m. every Sunday morning. A postal truck arrives at the printer at 2:30 p.m. and delivers the magazines directly to the South Bend post office where it is sorted and entered into the postal system — less than 24 hours after a game ends. There is no way to predict how the postal announcement below will affect each and every subscriber's delivery. The only constant we can offer is posting the entire issue of Blue & Gold Illustrated online each Sunday morning by 11:00 a.m. If you have an email address that you haven't given to us, please let us know so you can take advantage of that option while we all wait to see if/how the post office's changes affect your printed copy delivery. Sincerely, Stu Coman, publisher
