TRACKING THE PACK NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2021 ■ 13 PACK PERFORMERS Aiden Hayes, Men's Swimming The newcomer from Norman, Okla., headlines a banner recruiting class for the Wolfpack, and before arriving at NC State he received one more honor — Swimming World Magazine's Male High School Swimmer of the Year. Last February, Hayes set American high school records in both the 50- yard freestyle (19.20 seconds) and 100-yard but- terfly (45.47 seconds). In September, SwimSwam.com rated Hayes the No. 1 recruit in his class, and NC State's signing haul the best in the country. Maximilian Steinlechner, Men's Golf After finishing second at the Rod Myers Invita- tional in Durham, N.C., Sept. 10-11 in his season debut, the junior from Innsbruck, Austria, was ranked the No. 1 men's collegiate golfer by Golf- week Sept. 29. This came after Steinlechner was an honorable mention All-American last season with five top-five finishes in 10 tournaments. Since becoming No. 1, Steinlechner finished tied for eighth while helping the Pack win the Mountaineer Invitational Oct. 4-5 in Bridgeport, W.Va. Katelyn Tuohy, Women's Cross Country One of the reasons NC State has climbed to No. 1 nationally in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association poll is the development of the sophomore from Stony Point, N.Y. She was named the ACC Cross Country Performer of the Week Sept. 21, an honor that recognized her for winning the adidas XC Chal- lenge four days prior in Raleigh. It was Tuohy's first career individual title. She was the top freshman finisher and only All-American in her class at the NCAA Championships last season. Nina Zimmer, Women's Soccer The freshman defender from Dortmund, Ger- many, has played in seven of NC State's first 14 games, all of them starts, but she has also traveled back to Europe to represent her native country in the U19 Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Championship qualifying rounds. Zimmer started in Germany's 2-1 win over Belgium on Sept. 21 and played 45 minutes in a 6-1 win over Slovenia six days prior to that. She returned to the Wolfpack Sept. 26 and started the next four con- tests, including a 2-1 road win over No. 4 Duke. Home is where the howl is. Join today at go.ncsu.edu/AAMembership #HowlBack
