NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2021 ■ 5 ■ WOLFPACK CLUB NEWS Where did you grow up? "I was born in Raleigh and raised in Cary." Where did you go to high school? "Cary High School." What college did you graduate from? "NC State in 1992 with a degree in mass communications. I grew up a State fan, and it was the only school I applied to." What is your responsibility at the Wolf- pack Club? "I am cur- rently transitioning over to a new role in market- ing and communica- tions after having been the business manager since 2000. "I'm excited about the new role and the op- portunity to work with members and clubs, such as the Varsity Club, Young Alumni and the Junior Wolf- pack Club. I will also focus on donor outreach, through our stew- ardship initiatives." How long have you been with the Wolfpack Club? "For a little over 31 years and feel like I have lived through so much history in those years. "I have been so fortunate to count some Wolfpack legends as co-workers and friends — Frank Weedon and Kay Yow come to mind. I started working in athlet- ics director Todd Turner's office my junior year as a part-time student employee. I also had responsibilities with sports informa- tion. I think I spent more time in Case and Reynolds than I did in the classroom actu- ally! When I graduated in 1992, they asked me to stay on full-time and work for the Wolfpack Pride Campaign. At the time we were in the early stages of raising money for the Entertainment and Sports Arena (now known as PNC). In 1995, I started working in the membership office with Buzzy Correll. In 2000, I took on a new role as the business manager, when Marge Kelley retired." What is your favorite part of the job? "It's the personal connections and relation- ships that I have made over all these years, because that's what it all comes down to. "There are members now whose par- ents I was close to years ago. I can talk to them about a particular memory I have of their dad or reminisce about when they would come by our old Stroud Center of- fice to visit with Charlie Bryant and Ruth Aldridge, things like that." Family: "My husband Will and I were both born at the old Rex Hospital here in Raleigh, just a few months apart, but we didn't meet until we were 35. He is a real- tor with Berkshire Ha- thaway, and we live in North Hills, where he was raised. Our daugh- ter Carleigh is 13 and attends the same middle school he did. Fun fact — we named her Car- leigh because I grew up in Cary and Will grew up in Raleigh." What are your hob- bies? "We have a fam- ily farm down in Pamlico County that my great-grandfather built and enjoy going down there to fish, boat and relax every chance we get. I'm also an avid gardener and grow flowers to bring for our office each week throughout the summer." Favorite TV show: "'The Office.'" Favorite musical artist: "Pearl Jam." Favorite restaurant: "Two in Raleigh — 42nd Street Oyster Bar and The Pit." Favorite Wolfpack memory: "When we played at Texas in 1999, a great many of our staff went and we made a weekend of it. Mack Brown was the head coach at Texas then, and we won, so that made for an even sweeter victory. "I was also on the field after the game when we beat FSU in 1998. It was a huge win! I have a piece of the goalpost signed by Coach O'Cain, Torry Holt, Jamie Bar- nette and our kicker, Dan Deskevich." What is something most people don't know about you? "I was one of the very early users on eBay, and I've been a Power- Seller since 1997, with 100 percent positive feedback. I'm a big vintage collector and seller, and just nostalgic by nature. My fa- vorite thing is helping people recognize the unexpected value of the things they have just sitting around their homes."
