On Nov. 5, 2011, a 23-page present- ment issued by a Pennsylvania grand jury added legal force to a story that had appeared in the Harrisburg Patriot-News the day before. Having "received and re- viewed evidence" of crimes committed by Jerry Sandusky, the grand jury accused the former Penn State defensive coordinator of "sexual assaults of minor male children" over a period of years, beginning when he was still a football coach for the Nittany Lions and continuing after his retirement. What had been alluded to in the opening paragraphs of the document only became more horrifying in the pages that followed. The list of allegations, detailed extensively in the presentment, touched off a week of furor that ensnared Penn State, its presi- dent, athletic director, football program, and legendary head coach Joe Paterno, among others. None of those pages were more har- rowing than the seven that detailed the offenses committed against Victim 2. The account centered on how then-graduate assistant coach Mike McQueary had wit- 10 YEARS LATER Reflecting on the harrowing events of November 2011 — and efforts that followed to rebuild Longtime Penn State assistant coach Tom Bradley was put in charge of the football program on an interim basis following Joe Paterno's dismissal.
