THIRD QUARTER NOTRE DAME 17, NAVY 6 Top Moment: Notre Dame stuffed Navy on third-and-goal from the 4-yard line. The Midshipmen sustained a 14-play, 71-yard drive that took up nearly 10 minutes of game time, but they had to settle for a field goal when the Notre Dame defense stiffened up with its back against the wall. Feature Performer: Junior linebacker JD Bertrand made four of his nine tackles in the quarter. He combined on the big third-down tackle with graduate student defensive end Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa. Stats: Navy outgained Notre Dame 67-24 in total yards. The Midshipmen held the ball for 11:54. Navy still only averaged 4.2 yards per play to Notre Dame's 3.4. Items: Four of Hinish's game-high 10 tackles came on the 14-play Navy drive … Sophomore running back Chris Tyree only recorded one carry, but he was in- strumental in the final few minutes of the quarter. He made a big-time block on a safety blitz that allowed Coan to get the ball to freshman wide receiver Lorenzo Styles Jr. for a 13-yard gain. The final play of the quarter was a six-yard reception for Tyree. FOURTH QUARTER NOTRE DAME 34, NAVY 6 Top Moment: There were plenty to choose from here, but the safety changed the momentum of the final quarter. Ju- nior punter Jay Bramblett booted a kick that was downed at the 1-yard line by ju- nior linebacker Jack Kiser, and the Notre Dame defense forced a safety two plays later. It was the start of a spurt of 17 un- answered points from the Fighting Irish. Feature Performer: Williams scored his second touchdown of the game and 12th total touchdown this season. He fumbled before crossing the goal line on the 20-yard play, but he recovered the ball in the end zone for the score. Stats: Notre Dame outgained Navy 127-61 in total yards. The Irish averaged 8.5 yards per play to Navy's 3.8.
