It was an exclusive club he joined with his third-place finish at 141 pounds, putting his name among legends Nick Gwiazdowski, Scott Turner and Sylvester Terkay. Wilson first broke on the national scene when he went from unseeded freshman to third in the country at 133 pounds in 2018. Wilson came back for a sixth year this season to join another exclusive club that those three are a part of — grapplers who won a national title during their time in Raleigh. He also felt the urge to pass along what he had learned in his five years to his younger teammates. "I felt the team, all together, we had something brewing," he explained. "I just didn't feel like us seniors were leaving on the high note that we wanted [last year], individually and as a team. "Another reason was just to help develop the younger guys. I've been here six years and I have a lot of wisdom, so I could still be on the team and step into a mentoring position to help them develop, be there for them." Here are a few other things you may not have known about Wilson, who is currently ranked third nationally by InterMat at 149 pounds, the third weight class of his college career: Favorite movie: "I have several, but one of my favorites I like to watch is 'Shawshank Redemp- tion.'" Athletes I look up to: "Tiger Woods and Floyd Mayweather." Favorite sport to watch besides wrestling: "College football." Celebrity you'd like to spend a day with: "Denzel Washington." Favorite restaurant off campus: "Assaggio's Italian Restaurant." What he hopes to do after college: "I see my- self staying involved with wrestling, especially in the near future. I don't know how long I'll do that, but after that I want to apply myself in the marketing field with a tech company." Last show he binge-watched: "I have two — 'Elementary' and 'Castle.'" Favorite arena he's competed in: "Reynolds — that's easy." One word to describe Pat Popolizio: "Enthu- siastic." — Ryan Tice Wilson is a three-time All-America wrestler for the Pack and was ranked third nationally by InterMat at 149 pounds heading into December.
