JANUARY 2022 THE WOLVERINE 15   INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS Getting To Know Ice Hockey Sophomore Forward Brendan Brisson Michigan sophomore forward Bren- dan Brisson is one of the Wolverines' top standouts, ranking fourth on the squad with 22 points (11 goals, 11 as- sists) and boasting a plus-10 on-ice rating. The No. 29 overall pick in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft, Bris- son has a long, bright future of hockey ahead of him. Here are some things about Brisson that you might not have known: Best Part About Being From Man- hattan Beach, Calif.: "Being able to go to the beach and surf and hang out with friends." Nickname: "Briss." Favorite Restaurant In Ann Arbor: "The Jagged Fork. I feel like my class put it on the map for the hockey team. We always used to go there freshman year, and now it's a team thing." Best Meal He Can Cook By Herself: "I like to cook Mexican food. I make my own little version of Chipotle bowls, putting everything in there. Tacos, burritos, all of that." Sport He Enjoys Playing Besides Hockey: "I like to surf a lot, because I can when I'm home. But as of recently, being a part of fantasy football leagues, I love it. We're in the playoffs right now for our Michigan team league." Favo r i te T V Sh ow : " 'G a m e o f Thrones' is the best. I binge-watched it twice." Favorite Movie: "'Interstellar.'" Why He Chose Michigan: "Growing up, I played in a tournament in Detroit. I was probably 12 or 13 [years old]. We watched a Michigan game against Niagara. Being in Yost and seeing that energy, right then and there I said, 'I want to go to Michigan so bad.' "I never really thought I was going to be able to play hockey at Michigan, but when it was time to talk to schools, talking to [head coach] Mel Pearson and going on my official visit, I kind of committed right away. I didn't even visit another school. I knew that if I had a chance to go to Michigan, I was going to take it." Wh at H e H o p e s To D o Af te r Hockey: "I haven't really thought about that yet, but I'm the type of per- son that's always doing something, so I don't think I could just sit around. Something in hockey, because that's what I've been doing my whole life, and I want to be involved as much as I can in my kids' hockey, whether that's coaching or being around the team." Favorite Memory At Michigan: "My whole freshman year was straight CO- VID — masks and you couldn't really hang out with people. Our team, we were with each other the whole time, and just got super close. There are so many good memories came from that. "We got shut down last year for two weeks, and during that time we played pond hockey every single day, all day. Being out on the lake, shoveling, play- ing with your teammates, playing by the fire, that's something I'm going to remember forever." Overall Experience At Michigan: " There's no school like Michigan. There's no school as well-rounded as Michigan — academically, athletically, social life, even the city of Ann Arbor. All of those things play a role in why Michigan is Michigan. "There's so much opportunity to do things at Michigan. There's something different about being in Ann Arbor. There's that swagger. I love saying I go to Michigan. The experience has been more than I could ask for, and I know it's only going to get better once we start winning more games and win the last game of the year." — Clayton Sayfie Brisson already has more goals (11) in 20 games this season than he had in 24 tilts last year (10).
