It looks to be an exciting year." — Anthony Broome Women's Basketball Led by double-doubles from senior forwards Naz Hillmon (29 points, 18 rebounds) and Emily Kiser (18 points, career-best 15 boards), Michigan destroyed No. 25 Ohio State 90-71 in Ann Arbor Dec. 31, marking the Wolverines' largest margin of victory over the Buckeyes in program history … U-M snapped No. 8 Maryland's 31-game home winning streak with a 69-49 triumph at the Xfinity Center Jan. 16 … Junior guard Maddie Nolan led the Wolverines with a career-high 21 points and career-best seven three-pointers … She was one of three U-M players to score in double figures, joining senior guard Leigha Brown (15 points) and freshman guard Laila Phelia (11 points) … Nolan's 39 made three-pointers through 17 games are more than any Wolverine connected on in 22 contests last season. Men's Gymnastics The Maize and Blue opened the season with a 385.950-252.100 win over Northern Illinois Jan. 8 at Cliff Keen Arena, sweeping all six team events … U-M earned the top three spots individually in each event, and also topped the all-around competition … Senior Nicholas Guy (floor exercise and vault) and junior Crew Bold (paral- lel bars and high bar) both came out on top with two event titles, while junior David Willett won the all-around for the first time in his Wolverine career … U-M took first place in the Windy City Invitational, defending its January 2020 crown (the 2021 event was canceled) … The Wolverines won five of six team event titles on the night and six individual events, including the all-around. Women's Gymnastics Senior Natalie Wojcik earned her 12th career Big Ten Gymnast of the Week award after claiming three event titles in Michigan's 197.750-194.500 victory over No. 15 Georgia Jan. 6 … Wojcik posted a 39.650 in the all-around to win the event and rank first nationally in the first week of the season. The senior all- arounder notched matching 9.950s on both the uneven bars and balance beam to again lead the nation in week one and capture her second and third event titles of the evening against the Bulldogs … All told, U-M scored a 49.300 or higher to sweep all four events … The Wolverines raised their 2021 national championship banner in front of more than 3,000 fans before a 197.950-196.275 win over Arizona State Jan. 15. Men's Indoor Track And Field The Maize and Blue took first place with 164 points while hosting the Simmons-Harvey Invitational Jan. 15, well ahead of runner-up Michigan State with 117, third-place Indiana with 111 and fourth-place Notre Dame at 45 … U-M won titles in eight different events on the 15-event program, highlighted by fresh- man Miles Brown smashing the school record in the 600 meters to take the conference lead. He was trailing entering the final lap but came from behind over the last 200 meters and crossed the line in 1:16.98, eclipsing the previous school record of 1:17.33. Women's Indoor Track And Field The Wolverines won the Simmons-Harvey Invitational Jan. 15, with 140 points to runner-up Notre Dame's 109, third-place Michigan State's 106 and fourth-place Indiana's 85 … In the meet finale, the 4x400 relay, sophomore and two-time Big Ten champion Ziyah Holman took the lead with 200 meters to go on the last leg to cap off the day with a Wolverine victory. Men's Swimming And Diving After seeing its Jan. 8 meet against Indiana canceled, the Wol- verines took on Minnesota and Wisconsin in their first action since Dec. 4, beating both the Gophers (188.5-110.5) and Badgers (182-116) in Madison Jan. 15 … U-M had six event winners on the day, including a pair of standouts — senior Jared Daigle (200-yard backstroke and 200-yard IM) and freshman Gal Groumi (100-yard and 200-yard butterfly) — who wound up with two victories. Women's Swimming And Diving U-M notched two victories over No. 14 Minnesota (179-121) and No. 20 Wisconsin (189-111) Jan. 15 in Madison … Three Wolverines — senior Olivia Carter (100-yard and 200-yard but- terfly), senior Maggie MacNeil (100-yard and 200-yard back- stroke) and freshman Letitia Sim (100-yard and 200-yard breast- stroke) — took home two event titles. Men's Tennis The Wolverines opened the 2022 spring season with a 5-2 win over Virginia Tech Jan. 16, with all five wins coming via singles matches … That marked the program's first-ever win over the Hokies … Two-time All-American and senior Andrew Fenty fell in both his singles and doubles match, surprisingly struggling to kick off the season … The Maize and Blue were slotted No. 17 in the United State Tennis Association preseason rankings. Wrestling Rutgers graduate transfer and 2019 NCAA champion (133 pounds) Nick Suriano made his Wolverine debut in a 29-12 U-M win at No. 21 Pittsburgh Jan. 9 … He went 2-0 on the day and out- scored his opponents 38-9 at 125 pounds … Senior heavyweight Mason Parris, ranked second nationally, posted a 14-4 major deci- sion over Pitt's Jake Slinger in his season dual-meet debut … The Wolverines dominated rival and seventh-ranked Ohio State 29-8 in Columbus Jan. 14, taking eight of 10 matches … Logan Massa and Myles Amine both notched top-10 victories in dramatic fash- ion, with the former using a third-period rally to come out on top at 174 pounds and the latter winning in overtime at 184 pounds. — Clayton Sayfie NATIONAL RANKINGS FOR WINTER OLYMPIC SPORTS As of Jan. 18 Team Record Ranking Women's Basketball 15-2 8 Men's Gymnastics 7-0 4 Women's Gymnastics 2-0 1 Men's Swimming And Diving 6-0 7 Women's Swimming And Diving 6-0 3 Wrestling 5-0 3 Maize & Blue Highlights
