FEBRUARY 2022 1 Dear Cavalier Fan, We hope you had a restful holiday season and that 2022 is off to a great start. We are excited about the momentum and enthusiasm for Virginia Athletics coming off the tremendous fundraising year in 2021 and the hiring of Fralin Family Head Football Coach Tony Elliott and his talented staff. Thank you for your loyalty and generosity! We are still wrapping up a small number of year-end gifts but wanted to share some details of what our donor base accomplished in 2021: • Annual Fund: Achieved a record-breaking $19.4 million • Master Plan: $51 million in total commitments • Newly Endowed Scholarships: $8.5 million • Number of donors: 9,500 These results are just a snapshot of the passion of our remarkably generous donors who provide an opportunity for our coaches and student-athletes to achieve new heights in 2022. This year, we strive to reach the fundraising level to begin construc- tion on the Football Operations Center as soon as possible and move into the next phase of the Master Plan, which will focus on the McCue Center and the Olympic Sports Center. Additionally, we will need to drive the Annual Fund to over $20 million for the first time. The Annual Fund is still responsible for approximately 80 percent of the scholar- ship cost each year, and tuition increases in each of the next two years by 3.5-4 percent put added pressure on scholarship funding. Finally, there are still matching funds available on gifts of $100,000 or more for new scholarship endowments. These commitments can be funded over a five-year period and are a great way to establish a family legacy within Virginia Athletics. Our staff so enjoys working with each of our donors, and I hope you will let us know if we can assist you in any way possible. We will con- tinue to rely on your commitment to help support our 27 varsity sports programs. Thank you for your remarkable support in 2021. Best regards, Dirk P.
