C O M PENN STATE'S TOP PERFORMERS Josie Bothun — Women's Ice Hockey After a pair of shutouts in December, Bothun was saluted in January as co-winner of Na- tional Goaltender of the Month honors from the Hockey Commissioner's Association. The Wyoming, Minn., native totaled 45 saves in a two-game series against New Hampshire Dec. 9-10, helping Penn State win both games by identical 3-0 scores. They were the seventh and eighth shutouts of Bothun's career, and she has since added two more. Only a sopho- more, she is already Penn State's career leader with 28 victories. Aaron Brooks — Wrestling The defending national champion at 184 pounds, Brooks has picked up right where he left off last season, winning the first 11 matches of his junior campaign. Included in that streak are ma- jor decisions over Maryland's 12th-ranked Kyle Cochran, 19-7, on Jan. 7 and Indiana's eighth- ranked D.J. Washington, 13-4, two nights later. Those performances, which included nine takedowns and a 3:27 riding time advantage over Cochran, netted Brooks his second Big Ten Wrestler of the Week award. Allison Johnson — Women's Track and Field Making her debut with the Penn State wom- en's track team at the Nittany Lion Challenge on Jan. 15, the freshman from Mount Gilead, Ohio, turned in the top 1,000-meter time in the country to that point in the season, finishing in 2 minutes, 43.12 seconds at PSU's Multi-Sport Facility. Johnson's finish was the second-best in school history, trailing only Danae Rivers' time of 2:38.58. A 2020 Ohio state champion in the girls' indoor 800, Johnson was named Big Ten Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week following her first appearance for Penn State. Sam Marsh — Men's Volleyball A senior middle blocker from London, Marsh has been a big part of the Nittany Lions' fast start this season. In a sweep of sixth-ranked Grand Canyon on Jan. 15, he had 12 kills on 16 swings, along with a pair of blocks. He finished the match with a .688 hitting percentage, rais- ing his percentage for the season to .533, best on the team. Marsh, who had seven kills on seven swings in Penn State's series-opening win over the Lopes two nights earlier, was named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's DI-II Player of the Week. —Matt Herb training company. He even opened a restaurant in Land- over, Md., in 2008, though it closed the following year. Among the many people he thanked following the announcement of his induction were his wife Trishia and five children: Keeno, Marlee, LaVar, Laila and Penn. "Hopefully one day Keeno and little LaVar will be playing football and continuing the legacy at Penn State," he said. "I am super proud of my family. I know being a Hall of Famer has a lot to do with what you do off the field and after your career as much as what you did on the field. I would not be able to be the figure, the mentor, the businessperson and the father I am without the support and love of my entire family. "I certainly want to send a much-deserved thank you to Penn State for supporting me. I also appreciate the support from all the fans. They have always been the greatest fans in the world. The love I feel even to this day is just unmatched." Arrington will be inducted along with the rest of the class on Dec. 6 at the National Football Foundation's annual awards dinner. — Matt Herb PENN STATE'S COLLEGE FOOTBALL HALL OF FAMERS NAME POS.
