system. The third concern is special teams. We have to make field goals 75 percent of the time and put kickoffs into the end zone. We can't give up the big kickoff and punt returns. I also think the defense will be OK. Rick76 8-4. Mainly the losses come because of the lack of experience at QB. jerseylion109 If we lose to Syracuse, 6-6. If we can beat Syracuse, 9-3, at best. Worst-case scenario is we lose to Syracuse, the QBs don't improve much as the season goes on, the defensive players suffer injuries that plague them all year. If the bad stuff happens, we are closer to Indiana than the good Big Ten teams. I understand the reason for optimism, but the thin lines on both sides of the ball scare the hell out of me. psugo 9-3, but if we get good QB play, I could see 10-2, with an outside shot of 11-1. cngorki 8-4. Our lack of depth at most positions is the biggest area of concern. It is very hard to replace leaders like Matt McGloin and Michael Mauti, as well. Hoping for the best, but you can't look at these things with blue and white shades on when trying to predict. mkilvanick Absent a rash of key injuries, 10-2. Our schedule is lined up perfect. The only world-beater that we play is Ohio State. I thumb my nose in the general direction of Michigan. We will beat the livin' crap out of Syracuse in the opener by at least 24 points. KidTwist 8-4 with an outside shot at 9-3, if the injury bug stays away from us, especially at linebacker. Huge holes to fill in terms of leadership. Regardless of how well O'Brien can coach QBs, you cannot overlook the lack of Division I experience. Special teams are still not solid enough for me, in my opinion. goethe14 If the over/under were set at 8-4, I'd go with the over. If it were set at 9-3, I'd be tempted to bet the under. I'll go with 8.5-3.5 with a .5 margin of error. jack66 12-0. They sit down and lace them up each weekend for a reason. We are currently undefeated. The biggest hurdle is the obvious one. I have faith that these kids and this staff are going to get it done. Undefeated or not, I'm going to make it to at least every home game and scream until I am hoarse. These kids deserve our best effort. Join me, it's going to be fun. tgar www.AmericanAleHouse.net 821 Cricklewood Drive, Toftrees State College WHAT THEY'RE SAYING SEASON PREVIEW MAGAZINE EDITION Scholarship reductions will eventually hurt Penn State's depth, but the Nittany Lions' starting lineup is still among the best in the Big Ten. ... Penn State should be able to finish third in the division and win seven or ATHLON SPORTS eight games. If a QB develops, the Nittany Lions will be formidable, but the program has little margin for error. Penn State isn't ready to contend for the diviTHE SPORTING NEWS sion title, but it won't be an easy out for anyone. Penn State has playmakers on offense, so much depends on how quickly Hackenberg or Ferguson master O'Brien's playbook. The defense expects to be effective again. Winning eight games again and finishing second in LINDY'S SPORTS the Leaders Division are realistic goals. After exceeding all expectations in 2012, it's easy to feel optimistic for the future. Factually, they'll be feeling the effects of their sanctions more and more as the years go by. QB Matt McGloin is gone, true freshman Hackenberg will be pressured to play, and the loss of scholarships will be a problem. A small step back to 6-6 seems likely.
