The junior dis- tance runner broke Penn State's school record of 3 minutes, 57.11 seconds, which had been set in 2011 by Robby Creese. Dorenkamp's time was the sec- ond-best in the Big Ten to that point in the indoor season and seventh-best in the country. 3 . 6 9 Grade-point average of the Penn State women's soccer team during the fall semester, tops among the university's 31 var- sity sports programs. Coach Erica Dambach's squad was followed by the women's lacrosse (3.55), women's gymnastics (3.53), women's swim- ming and diving (3.51) and women's tennis (3.45) teams. The men's tennis squad also had a 3.45 GPA and was Penn State's best-performing team on the men's side. Across the entire athletic department, PSU student- athletes compiled a 3.14 GPA last fall, with 65 percent of all Nittany Lion athletes earning a 3.0 GPA or higher and a school-re- cord 289 making the dean's list (3.5 or higher). 7 t h Penn State's place in the On3 Consensus team recruiting rankings for the class of 2022 following the tra- ditional signing day on Feb. 2. The Nittany Lions inked 25 players, three of whom received five-star ratings in the On3 Consensus: quarterback Drew Allar, running back Nick Single- ton and defensive end Dani Dennis- Sutton. The Nittany Lions were second in the Big Ten behind Ohio State, which welcomed the country's fourth-rated class. 1 0 Goals by the Penn State women's ice hockey team in a shutout victory over LIU on Feb. 11. The scoring binge tied a nine-year-old school record for most goals in a single game. The Nittany Lions outshot the Sharks 55-6. 1 8 Points by Wisconsin in the first half of the Badgers' game against the Penn State men's basketball team on Feb. 5 in Madison. It was the third time this season that the Nit- tany Lions held an opponent below 20 points in a half. Previ- ously, the Lions limited Oregon State to 17 and Rutgers to 19. The 11th-ranked Badgers ended up winning the game, 51-49, but Penn State was competitive throughout, primarily because of a defensive effort that held Wisconsin 20 points below its season scoring average. Heading into the game, the Lions had held 11 of their previous 15 opponents at least 10 points below their scoring average. 1 9 t h Michigan State's ranking in the Associated Press men's basketball poll when it lost to Penn State, 62-58, on Feb. 15 at the Bryce Jordan Center. It was the first victory over a ranked opponent for the Nittany Lions' first-year head coach, Micah Shrewsberry. And it denied Michigan State's Tom Izzo what would have been a milestone win. Izzo went into the game seeking his 662nd career Big Ten victory, which would have tied him with former Indiana coach Bob Knight for the most in league history. 6 0 Consecutive sellouts at Rec Hall by the Penn State wrestling team. The top-ranked Nittany Lions once again filled the venerable 6,500-seat field house for their 21-13 victory over No. 7 Nebraska on Feb. 6 to extend the sellout streak, which dates back to the 2011-12 season. During that same span, the Nittany Lions have also sold out seven of their nine dual meets at the 15,261-seat Bryce Jordan Center. That includes this year's BJC Dual, in which the Lions thumped No. 6 Ohio State, 32-7, on Feb. 4 in front of 15,991 fans. 32 nd JAHAN DOTSON'S spot in the two- round mock dra issued by ESPN analyst Jordan Reid on Feb. 7. Reid has the former Penn State wideout going to the Detroit Li- ons with the last pick in the first round, calling him "a great fit for Detroit and quarterback Jared Goff." Reid also has safety Jaquan Brisker going to Washington with the 42nd pick and defensive end Arnold Ebiketie to Arizona with the 55th pick. PHOTO BY STEVE MANUEL
