controversial, but referees ruled his forward momentum had come to a halt before Taylor made it into the end zone. The win boosted Notre Dame's record to 6-0 and continued a four-game streak in which the Irish defense didn't give up a touchdown. The goal-line stand became a trademark of the never-say-die attitude of the group when it held rival USC at bay in a similar situation during the season finale in Los Angeles two months later. 6. Bama Blowout All the good fortune of the fall started to catch up to Notre Dame Jan. 7 in South Florida. Alabama steamrolled Notre Dame 42-14 in a one-sided championship game that was decided long before the halftime show. Crimson Tide running back Eddie Lacy ran for 140 yards and scored twice to lead the offensive onslaught. Notre Dame struggled to find any rhythm with the ball until the third quarter when Golson ran for one consolation touchdown and threw for another. The game marked Alabama's third title in four years and the Southeastern Conference's seventh in a row. It served as reminder for Kelly and the rest of the Notre Dame program there was still a gap they had to fill to reach the top tier of college football. The game itself may be one that left Irish fans hoping for some temporary amnesia, but its hype and the chance to play for a national championship will be a moment worth remembering for a long time. On Feb. 9 against Louisville, junior guard Jerian Grant connected on four straight three-pointers in a span of 29 seconds to rally the Irish from a 56-48 deficit with 51 seconds left to a 60-60 tie at the end of regulation.
