ND Sports Morgan Andrews Wins National Athlete Of The Year Award By Dan Murphy N otre Dame midfielder Morgan Andrews will have a good story to tell at freshman orientation next month. When asked about the highlight of her summer, Andrews will probably go with her trip to Los Angeles and the ESPY Awards ceremony where she accepted a trophy for being the country's top female high school athlete last year. Andrews, who will play her first game for Notre Dame in late August, won Gatorade's Athlete of the Year award in 2013 along with incoming Kansas basketball star Andrew Wiggins. Andrews is a two-time national soccer player of the year and joins the likes of Marion Jones, Candace Parker, Maya Moore and Notre Dame's Skylar Diggins as previous winners of the award. "Both on and off the field, Morgan is an incredibly unselfish and giving person and we couldn't be happier to hear that she is the Gatorade National High School Athlete of the Year," Irish head coach Randy Waldrum said in a statement. "She will be an important addition to not only our program, but our entire university during the next four years, and we are looking forward to having her on campus when we start preseason training next month." Andrews scored 114 goals and had 53 assists during her four-year career at Milford (N.H.) High School.
