In 1975, Ruettiger got on the field as a senior walk-on and made a tackle before getting carried off the field and fulfilling a lifelong dream. The Colony (Texas) High defensive end Grant Blankenship watched that movie for the first time when he was young and immediately took a liking to the Notre Dame football program. On July 5, the 6-5, 240-pound prospect fulfilled a lifelong dream and committed to play football for the Fighting Irish. "I grew up cheering for Notre Dame, and I've watched 'Rudy' so many times," Blankenship said. "It was a big part of me becoming a fan of the school and the university. My family and I always liked the football team while I was growing up, so this was a pretty easy decision for me. It's unreal how this all played out. "I picked up the offer on June 10, and I talked to the coaching staff about camping up there at the end of June.
