The recent Notre Dame graduate and NFL rookie in 2010 is the godson of Bonner's grandfather. The two have discussed his commitment and Bonner said that Brown "couldn't be more proud of having another Irish player in the family." Bonner camped at Notre Dame this summer and performed well. He was confident that he did enough to earn an offer. "I really pushed myself and was pretty sure I was going to get offered, but not the very next day," Bonner noted. "The staff kept trying to challenge me at camp and put the best offensive linemen against me, but I actually didn't lose a single rep. The coaches were joking with me and were telling me that they had to offer since they couldn't find anyone that could stop me. "Coach [Bob] Elliott, the safeties coach, said that he's not sure anyone will be able to stop me until I enroll at Notre Dame," Bonner added. "It was pretty funny, but nice of him to say that." Mark Goldenberg, Bonner 's high school coach at Central, spoke highly of the future Irish defensive lineman and called Bonner "arguably the most talented player" that he's ever coached. "Jonathan is a phenomenal football player, and he's an even better person," Goldenberg said.
