commitment profile: tyler newsome Kicker Takes Advantage Of Opportunity With The Irish By Tom Loy C arrollton (Ga.) High punter Tyler Newsome picked up an offer from the Irish in one day of work at the Notre Dame Kicking and Long Snapping Camp June 20. It didn't take long for 6-3, 190-pound prospect to jump on the offer and tell the coaching staff he was going to commit. Newsome displayed his excitement all over multiple social media sites and told BlueandGold. com that he was ready to end his recruitment. Prior to going public with his announcement, Newsome called the Notre Dame coaches June 21 and informed them that he would like to accept their scholarship offer and join the Irish class of 2014. "It's a blessing knowing I'll be at Notre Dame," Newsome said. "God's had my back throughout everything, and this is the next step. First I want to win a state title in high school and then do my part to get Notre Dame a national title. "The coaches and staff members have been so welcoming. They all took the time to speak with me individually and welcome me to the university. That just shows the type of character that this staff has. They could have easily accepted the commitment and moved on to the next target, but they spent time with me, talked to me and showed that they care. That meant a lot to me." Newsome didn't receive an offer based on his highlight tape. The talented Peach State prospect spent a few hours kicking and punting in front of the Irish coaching staff at the camp. Prior to leaving campus, Newsome received the good news directly Newsome earned an offer from the Irish after participating in the Notre Dame kicking and long snapping camp June 20, and he committed to head coach Brian Kelly the next day. photo courtesy 247sports
