fan forum • On third-down conversions, they ranked 54th. To believe that losing Everett Golson will automatically cause the Irish to take a step back and be less productive in 2013 is a false presumption — unless you actually believe that the Irish will be lower than 73 other teams in passing efficiency, lower than 70 other teams in scoring points inside the 20, and lower than 53 other teams on third down. In that case, the blame falls on the head coach and offensive coordinator. Maybe the pressure should be applied to the head coach and offensive coordinator, to adjust and adapt to an offensive system that relies less on the spread/read option, where the QB is constantly looking and listening to the sidelines before the snap, instead of "feeling" and recognizing the defensive set, and more on a pro-style attack, and allow the QB to take charge of the offense, instead of being obsessed with "protecting the ball," and having Brian Kelly overreact on every single mistake. From The WebSite At the SEC media days in mid-July, South Carolina ball coach Steve Spurrier worked Notre Dame into the first two minutes of his address to the media. Spurrier indicated that the SEC coaches agreed unanimously that the Irish should have to join the ACC full-time in football. He also said there was conversation on why Notre Dame director of athletics Jack Swarbrick counts as a football commissioner in the BCS and they couldn't come up with a good reason. That led to a flood of responses on BlueandGold.com. Here is a small sample: Greg bell: The fact that they took time at their meetings to talk about ND should illustrate to even the SEC cheaters why ND is special. Davejlewis: What the hell has the ACC got to do with Spurrier and the SEC? Vod Kanockers: The ol' ball coach always has something snarky to say about ND. Oh well, so be it. He helped out Lou Holtz when Mrs. Holtz was sick. He and his family acted with compassion on behalf of a member of the Notre Dame Family … At least his arrest record with players isn't like Urban Meyer's. Stammy: If Spurrier didn't have something to whine about he wouldn't know what to do. Mbryan06: Of course they want ND to become a full football member of the ACC. It would bring them down to their level in sharing money and resources. NDDillon: I do not imagine the coaches at Notre Dame sitting down and spending time talking about the Gamecocks. TDGeezuz: Looking at it logically and without bias, it isn't like he doesn't have a point. ND sits at the NCAA table equal to entire conference directors. No other university does that. We cannot deny that is a little off-center. 65too: Who is being harmed? Not the ACC. Not college football. Certainly not the SEC. Pimpi: The truth is, Spurrier has always had an issue with Notre Dame and its independent status. When I (as a Notre Dame graduate) worked with him at Florida, there was rarely an opportunity where he wouldn't tweak me about Notre Dame. We'd be playing in the athletic department's scramble golf game and he'd ask me, "Are you playing under the Rules of Golf or the special Notre Dame Rules?" Everything is regionalized down there and so is their thinking.
