1. Calhoun makes a nice, disciplined pass rush (good athleticism, good physicality, good discipline) in
giving Denicos Allen a chance to close for a hit on the QB.
The QB completes a desperate moon shot deep pass on this play. Isaiah Lewis blew the coverage.
Why are we highlighting a play that went for 70-plus yards agaist MSU? Because the play SHOULD
HAVE resulted in a deep interception by Lewis, thanks to edge pressure. The work that Calhoun and
Allen did up front forced a bad pass. This film illustrates player development up front, regardless of what
happened in the back.
2. In scanning the screen, I
incorrectly identified Max Bullough
as Kyler Elsworth on two occasions.
But the point remains: In 2012,
MSU used Elsworth as more or
more than Allen as the blitzing LB
in the 30 nickel pressure schemes.
