INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS 6 Straight NCAA Tournament berths for Michigan men's basketball, and four consecutive March Madness bids for the WOMEN'S TEAM, which, prior to 2019, had never gone more than two straight seasons with an appearance in the Big Dance. This is the second stretch of six NCAA Tournament appearances in a row for the men's program. THEY SAID IT PHOTO BY LON HORWEDEL KIM BARNES ARICO PHOTO BY PER KJELDSEN APRIL 2022 THE WOLVERINE 17 "He was on a high, I think. I saw it a little bit after the Ohio State game, but it was mostly after we got the job done in Indy, where you could finally take a breath and you get a little break. We walked into some team meetings sometimes and he'd just be like, 'And we're Big Ten champs, baby!' The whole room would just go crazy. So he was feeling himself, for sure. But that's a Harbaugh I haven't seen, so being able to see that side of him where it's like, finally we get some frickin' glory and we can just have some fun in victory. I'm glad I got to see that for my last year with him." —AIDAN HUTCHINSON on Jim Harbaugh (via the "Pardon My Take" podcast) There are people that want to keep different stories going — love to hate us or hate to love us — but we're having a blast. The word 'tu- multuous' was used in the offseason. If guys are bringing the energy and having fun and the mo- mentum that the program has, whatever word you want to put on that, that's what we're having." — U-M head coach Jim Harbaugh "Until a team won the Big Ten championship, we continually had classes that graduated without beat- ing Ohio State, without winning a Big Ten champion- ship or even going to Indianapolis. Now, they know from the standard that was reset by the likes of Aidan Hutchinson and Hassan Haskins and everybody else that was a part of that team that won't be this year. These players [who are still on the team] know exactly the sacrifices that you've got to make, the energy that you have to give, what you have to do in season, out of season, in the training room, to be able to have a chance at having a season like that. … You've gotta have that sacrifice. You've got to be willing to do what that 2021 team did to give yourself a chance to have success." — Former Wolverine Jon Jansen on the "In The Trenches" podcast "That was a really cool atmosphere. There was a kid behind the bench. I don't know if I'll ever see him again, but I want to thank him because he kept telling me that I was bald. And I'll be honest with you — I've gone along this whole time thinking I had a thinning hairline, not bald. So I appreciate him letting me know that." — Michigan basketball associate head coach PHIL MARTELLI on the environment during U-M's 75-69 win at Ohio State March 6 PHOTO BY LON HORWEDEL
