APRIL 2022 1 Dear Cavalier Fan, The start of 2022 has been filled with much excitement and energy across Virginia Athletics. The women's swimming and diving team won its second NCAA Championship for back-to-back titles, men's lacrosse is off to a strong start with wins against Syracuse and Johns Hopkins, and baseball is experiencing one of its best starts in program history. It's been great to have so many fans in the stands cheering on our teams. If you haven't had the chance to make it out to see our teams compete, we hope we'll see you at a game or match soon. In the last edition of the Cavalier Corner, we shared some fundraising results from 2021, and in this edition, you will see that our 2021 donor recognition is now available on our website. We are so apprecia- tive of the continued support from thousands of donors each year. All of the gifts made to Virginia Athletics (Annual Fund, endowments, facilities, suite commitments and operational budgets) are part of the University of Virginia's current $5 billion Honor the Future cam- paign, of which our goal is $500 million. The Honor the Future campaign is closing in on $4 billion in total commitments and, with your support, we have raised $406 million to support Virginia Athletics. We still have a great deal of work to do to reach our targets, espe- cially to complete the Master Plan and respond to the ever-changing landscape in college athletics. Thank you for your incredible support so far. The Annual Fund represents a vital part of the funding for Virginia Athletics and is how a majority of our donors support the program. It typically represents approximately 40 percent of all gifts to the Foundation with the remaining commitments directed to facil- ity projects, endowed scholarships and operational budget support. Here's a quick snap- shot of how many loyal donors contributed to the record-breaking Annual Fund in 2021. 2021 Giving Level Number of Donors in 2021 Scholarship Society Out-of-State ($69,750) 9 Scholarship Society In-State ($34,000) 32 Champions Club ($25,000) 59 Commonwealth Club ($15,000) 129 V Club ($7,500) 500 Captains Club ($5,000) 589 Orange & Blue Club ($3,500) 502 Coaches Club ($1,750) 1,991 Cavalier Club ($750) 1,065 Wahoo Club ($350) 1,120 Sabre Club ($100) 3,974 VAF Contributor (<$100) 875 The 2022 Annual Fund is already in full swing, and you should have received informa- tion in the mail and by email on renewing your commitment. The Annual Fund continues to be the primary source of funding for athletic scholarships, which is projected to reach $22 million this year. We are preparing to make the first payment of the year to the University to fund these scholarships; thank you to all of our donors who have already made their gift! This year, we remain motivated to reach our next set of goals to support Virginia Athlet- ics — reaching the funding level needed to break ground on the new Football Operations Center and then focusing on the Olympic Sports Center and McCue Center, funding all 316.6 scholarships allowed by the NCAA, and raising $20 million for the Annual Fund. We are grateful for the generosity of all of our donors who have helped — and continue to help — us make progress on these goals. Sincerely, Dirk P.
