But that's not all that's in the air. There's also a sense of urgency lingering over the proceedings — unseen maybe, but definitely present. There's always a bit of urgency in the air given the competitive realities of life in the Big Ten's rugged East Division. But those feelings have intensified with the Nittany Lions having stum- bled during the past two seasons. Since the start of the 2020 cam- paign, they are 11-11, the program's worst two-year performance since 2003-04 when it went a combined 7-16. The Lions headed into the offsea- son on the heels of a painful finish in 2021 in which they dropped six of Five Questions Back for his sixth and final season at Penn State, quar- terback Sean Clifford is coming off a 2021 campaign in which he ranked sixth in the Big Ten in total offense, averaging 251.5 yards per game.
