C O M ON THE BATTLE TO BE PENN STATE'S STARTER AT RUNNING BACK … So, like everyone, I'm really excited to see Nick Singleton. He's a January enrollee, and this will give him some good experience. Remember, Saquon Barkley showed up in late June. I think it's at least fair to com- pare them out of high school. We'll see how good Singleton is moving forward. Also, I've been comparing him a lot to TreVeyon Henderson [of Ohio State]. Been watching a lot of his videos. He's a spectacular player and future top-10 pick. Singleton is not quite as quick/fast, but is stronger and bigger and is a straight-line runner. It's going to be fun watching those two moving forward. — Arringtonian Keyvone Lee should start, but no way should Lee get the bulk of the carries throughout the year. — Gorki That is a really strong statement to make when you have not seen either of the freshmen get a carry yet. Lee has been solid. Always seems to emerge from the group. Not a superstar, but in two years no one else was better. I sure hope the new guys are better, but that is far from a given. — wplion I can see an eventual 40-40-20 split between Lee, Singleton and Allen. And I'll take a guess that it will pan out that way by the third or fourth game. Where Caziah Holmes and Devyn Ford fit in is anyone's guess. I still wouldn't mind seeing Ford take some third-down slot reps as a receiver who can make something happen with a short pass/run. Of course, I'd also love to see [freshman receiver Kaden] Saunders take those kinds of reps, too. Nice problem to have. — SJLuvsLions I'm certainly pleased that Kaytron Allen stayed the course with his commitment to Penn State in spite of Nick Singleton coming in at the same time. Kaytron made a quality decision for himself and for the Nittany Lions. Glad he did! Penn State now has a multifaceted, excellent running back room in my opin- ion. — bcrane1917 ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE LIONS' WIDE RECEIVERS … Until proven otherwise, Mitchell Tinsley is a step back from Jahan Dotson. It will be tough to match JD's combination of speed, great hands, route running and blocking ability. Parker Wash- ington will be fine. If Tinsley can be a threat, his numbers will go up. KeAndre Lambert-Smith, Malick Meiga and any others should be im- mersed in the Jahan Dotson template — relent- lessly work on your game. Get faster, run more- precise routes, don't shy away from taking and giving a hit. They have shown they can do it, now be consistent. Kaden Saunders is the most exciting of the kids we have not seen yet, at least in my mind. If he has the nerves, he could be returning punts from Day 1. — SRATH Parker Washington is really good. It would not surprise me if he had nearly 60 catches and 800 yards. He runs routes well and has excellent hands. The only knock on him is that he's not a speed burner. Given his size, I am all in with Malick Meiga as a breakout player this fall. — Fox Chapel Lion II ON CONCERNS ABOUT THE DEFENSIVE FRONT SEVEN … I hope I'm wrong, but we are going to have problems all along the front, to include linebackers. The first set of defensive tackles may be able to hold their own, but after that there are question marks. Some guys will have to step up big time, even freshmen in my opinion. — PSU4U Maybe I'm in the minority, but I'm not at all worried about defensive tackle. I think it is among our stron- gest and deepest position groups. — PhillipintheValley 4 M A Y 2 0 2 2 Wide receiver Mitchell Tinsley is set to finish his college career at Penn State this year after transferring from Western Kentucky in January.
