Now, after two seasons coaching with the Arizona Cardinals and a year away from football, he has been brought back to Green Bay to again serve as quarter- backs coach, this time leading a 38-year- old Rodgers, now a four-time NFL Most Valuable Player. It was Rodgers who talked Clements into returning to Green Bay. "I didn't have the itch to come back [to coaching]," Clements said. "It was because of coming back to Green Bay, with Aaron, and a chance to win an- other Super Bowl. Those were the pri- mary considerations." IN MEMORIAM: DARYLE LAMONICA, DICK SWATLAND Daryle Lamonica, Notre Dame's starting quarterback from 1960-62 who went on to fame as the "Mad Bomber" of the Oakland Raiders, died at age 80 on April 21 at his home in Fresno, Ca- lif. Lamonica led Oakland's pass-happy attack in a 13-1 regular season in 1967, firing 30 touchdown passes while win- ning his first of two AFL most valuable player awards. He was the MVP of the 1967 AFL title game, leading the Raiders into the first Super Bowl versus the Green Bay Packers. In his 12-year pro career, Lamonica threw for 19,154 yards and 164 touchdowns. In his three seasons at Notre Dame, Lamonica completed 99 of 211 attempts for 1,363 yards with eight touchdowns, while rushing for 353 yards and 10 scores. Dick Swatland, starting right guard on Notre Dame's 1966 national cham- pions, died April 9 at age 76 in his native Stamford, Conn. Swatland overcame injuries early in his ND career to be- come a stalwart on the 1966 team that averaged 36.2 points per game in going 9-0-1. HAVE A TOPIC YOU'D LIKE TO SEE RESEARCHED?
