cavalier profile Dontrelle Inman Alum • Football Like many professional football players, Dontrelle Inman never thought he'd end up in Canada. However, this former Virginia wide receiver who is now in his second year with the Toronto Argonauts really can't complain, because in his first season with the Argos he started and caught 50 passes for 803 yards and five touchdowns. But more importantly, last season Toronto won the Grey Cup — its CFL-record 16th, but first since 2004. "Nobody expected us to win. Coach [Scott Milanovich, who played quarterback at Maryland in the mid-1990s] had a lot of faith in me as a rookie. I stepped into a big role and the team came together, which was the best part of it," Inman said. "We went on a run at the end when nobody expected us to put a string of games together. It was a phenomenal experience." Along with Cary Koch, who plays slotback for Edmonton, Inman is one of two UVa products currently in the CFL, a bond he enjoys sharing with Koch. "It's pretty great," he said. "We converse over Twitter, text message. He congratulates me on the things I do and I do the same. It's just good to know that somebody is doing the same that you're doing." Of course, one subject that always comes up is their time in Charlottesville and how being a Cavalier helped lay the foundation for the success they are each now experiencing at the professional level. "My time at UVa was great. It was a growth stage for me where I came into my own being a player, learning things, just teaching me," Inman said. "How to be an athlete and how to be a professional was what I took away from being at the University of Virginia." The 24-year-old receiver spent time with the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars in 2011 before coming to Canada and would like another shot at the NFL, but he isn't going to lose sleep over it. "That's always the ultimate goal for every professional player," Inman said. "That's one of my goals. If it happens, it happens and if it doesn't, it doesn't. I can only control what I can." — Steve Hunt ◆ Photo courtesy Toronto Argonauts
