On Saturday, April 9, 2022, Virginia Men's Lacrosse welcomed two of
its NCAA Championship teams to mark their milestones as the 1972
team celebrated its 50th anniversary and the 2011 team honored its
10th anniversary, a celebration delayed one year due to the coronavi-
rus pandemic. Over 40 alumni from the two championship teams plus
their guests returned to Charlottesville for the occasion.
Ahead of the reunion, on Friday night, the 1972 team gathered for
a dinner at Vivace to recount old stories while the 2011 team enjoyed
an evening at Dom Starsia's doing the same. The next day, both teams
were invited to the UVA vs. UNC men's lacrosse matchup, which in-
cluded a pre- and post-game tailgate hosted by the Virginia Athletics
Foundation. Alumni and their families enjoyed reminiscing together
and witnessing an exciting 11-4 UVA victory over the Tar Heels. Both
UVA championship teams were also recognized on the field during the
game with special highlights shown on Hoo Vision.
"I am tremendously grateful for all who returned," Coach Lars Tiffany
shared. "Having so many of you return means the world to the staff,
the current team and me. This is what it is all about — sharing this
experience together. We lacrosse alumni, families and fans don't need
too much; we just need each other, and the good times will roll."
