16 ■ THE WOLVERINE 2022 FOOTBALL PREVIEW MICHIGAN FOOTBALL Although the Wolverines lost college football's winning percent- age lead after the 2019 season, they still hold the record for all-time wins in the sport. Michigan added 12 victories to its total last fall, while Alabama closed the gap by one game after a 13-2 season. The Wolverines were able to grab a game back over Ohio State thanks to a head-to- head victory on Nov. 27 and one more win on the season. The race for the best all-time win percentage remains competi- tive, and U-M improved its standing there. After sliding two spots following the 2020 season, Michigan moved back into the fourth slot, raising itself one rung on the ladder. Everyone ahead of them moved up, while Boise State slid four spots after a 7-5 season. — Anthony Broome Division I Football Bowl Subdivision All-Time Wins Leaders Rk. School Years W L T Change 1. Source: Winsipedia.com Michigan Stays At No. 2 In All-Time Big Ten Standings Ohio State maintained its all-time wins and win percentage lead inside the Big Ten conference after an 8-1 mark against league foes in 2021. However, Michigan kept pace with an 8-1 record of its own. The storied rivals have a wide gap between themselves and the rest of the conference. After no positional changes in 2019 and 2020, Nebraska slid from fifth to eighth, while Iowa jumped ahead of Minnesota.
