AUGUST 2022 17 come the top passer in UVA history. He needs 679 yards to break the program's career passing yards mark and 6 more touchdown passes for the most in program history. Both career marks are held by UVA great Matt Schaub, who went on to play 17 years in the NFL. CAVALIER TARGETS Fortunately for Armstrong, more than 70 percent of UVA's receptions and receiving yards are back for the 2022 season — and that does not include 6-foot-7, 224-pound third- year wideout Lavel Davis, who missed the entire 2021 season after hauling in 20 passes for 515 yards and 5 scores as a true first-year in 2020. Virginia returns arguably one of the top receiving rooms in the country, led by third-year Dontayvion Wicks and fifth-year Keytaon Thompson. The two headliners were 10 yards shy of becoming the first duo in UVA history to each record 1,000 yards receiving in the same season. Wicks broke Herman Moore's 31-year-old single-season receiving yards record by amassing 1,203 yards in 12 games last season, 13 more than the UVA and NFL legend. Right behind him was Thompson, who finished the year with 990 yards, the sixth most in a single season by a UVA pass catcher. Add third-team All-ACC performer Billy Kemp IV to the mix and Arm- strong will have plenty of options to throw to. Kemp, a fifth-year, brings a 27-game reception streak into the 2022 campaign. The Cavaliers will need to fill a void left at the tight end position by the departure of Jelani Woods, who was selected in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. Woods had a career year after transferring in from Oklahoma State, catching 8 touchdown passes, sec- ond only to Heath Miller's 9 in 2002 for the most by a UVA tight end. Returners Grant Misch, a fourth- year, and Sackett Wood Jr., a third- year, will look to step up for UVA in the passing attack as well as the run game. UVA BY THE NUMBERS 2021 Returning In 2022 Pct.
