AUGUST 2022 3
On June 2, the official groundbreaking ceremony was held behind
the McCue Center for the athletics department's new Football Opera-
tions Center. The $80 million project will house the Cavaliers' football
program and is the second phase of UVA's Athletics Master Plan. The
90,000-square-foot facility is scheduled to open in the spring of
2024.
"As we're challenging and pushing these young men toward lead-
ing us to become a model program, it's important that we show them
that we support them fully in everything that they do," Fralin Family
Football Head Coach Tony Elliott said. "This space in the new facility
is going to give us all the room that we need, plus all the resources
that we need, to pour into these young men holistically to create the
model program in all of college football."
The Football Operations Center will include a locker room, strength
and conditioning space, nutrition spaces, meeting rooms, coaches'
offices, video operations and sports medicine areas for treatment
and recovery.
