O C TO B E R 7 – 9 , 2 0 2 2 In September, the Virginia Athletics Foundation (VAF) launched an emeritus leadership society of previous mem- bers of the VAF Board of Trustees to recognize their long- standing support and to keep them informed and engaged with Virginia Athletics and the VAF. Society members will be in- vited to special events each year and receive updates on the status of Virginia Athletics and the VAF from AD Carla Williams and VAF Executive Director Dirk Katstra. Past Board members are eligible to join this society once their term expires. On Friday, September 16, the VAF hosted a dinner at Boar's Head Inn to welcome all past trustees into the new VAF Emer- itus Leadership Society. During the dinner program, attendees were thanked for their service and shown how their continued leadership will significantly impact our student-athletes and all of Virginia Athletics. Katstra provided an overview of the leadership society and current fundraising updates, and Cindy Brinker Simmons, former VAF board member and an alumna of the women's tennis and cross country programs, spoke on behalf of all trustees to discuss the importance of the society and its future impact. Carla Williams discussed recent athlet- ics highlights, new hires and shared her vision of the future of Virginia Athletics before Dean and Markel Families Men's Head Basketball Coach Tony Bennett spoke on behalf of all coaches to share appreciation for the trustees' longtime com- mitment. All past trustees in attendance received a keepsake Jefferson Cup with "VAF Emeritus Leadership Society" en- graved. "We are excited about the newly launched VAF Emeritus Leadership Society, a dynamic way to keep our former VAF Board of Trustees and those just rolling off the board in- formed and encouraged regarding UVA's multi-dimensional athletic programs and campaigns," shared Brinker Simmons. "Through their invaluable service, our VAF Board of Trustees have supported UVA athletics with their generosity, wisdom, and leadership. This newly formed society will keep them up- dated and engaged." VAF Emeritus Leadership Society
