Women's Tennis Adds
Star International Recruit
The NC State women's tennis team,
which reached the Final Four in 2021 and
boasted a national champion doubles
tandem this past spring, made a signifi-
cant addition to its 2022-23 roster.
Moscow native Diana Shnaider signed
with NC State in August and weeks
later captured the U.S. Junior Open title
in doubles. That was her third Junior
Grand Slam doubles title, joining the
2021 triumph at Wimbledon and a vic-
tory earlier in the year at the Australian
Open.
Shnaider also reached the semifinals
of the 2021 French Junior Open and
quarters of the 2022 Australian Junior
Open in singles. At one point, she was
ranked as the No. 2 combined (singles
and doubles) junior player by the Inter-
national Tennis Federation.
"We are extremely excited and proud
to be able to add Diana to this year's
team as the highest-ranked and most
accomplished recruit in program his-
tory," women's tennis head coach Simon
Earnshaw stated. "I've been really im-
pressed with Diana's vision and plan for
her game, as well as her openness and
understanding of how we can help her
grow as she moves toward a professional
tennis career at the highest level.
"All credit to [assistant coach] Da-
vid [Secker] for leading what has been a
somewhat logistically challenging pro-
cess."
