38 ■ THE WOLFPACKER was NC State's best defensive player. However, the cupboard returning is far from bare. Brown-Turner, a senior, was an All- ACC performer in 2021 and also selected honorable mention All-American by the Associated Press after she averaged 13.5 points per game. In a more balanced and deeper Wolf- pack attack, Brown-Turner's scoring slipped to 9.8 points per game this past season, but that was still third best on the team. She also made the game-ty- ing, buzzer-beating 3-pointer to force a second overtime in the Elite Eight matchup versus Connecticut. NC State has players potentially ready to step up and replace Perez and Crutchfield as starters. Junior Diamond Johnson was the ACC Sixth Player of the Year last season and second on the team in scoring at 10.8 points per game. The Rutgers transfer and All-Big Ten performer in 2021 also led the Pack in 3-pointers (58) and steals (47), and she was second to Perez in assists. "I think she can still take her game to another level," Moore said. "I think it'll be a little bit easier for her this year be- cause she's not in a situation where she was with five kids who had been there the year before." Aziaha James made the ACC All- Freshman team despite limited playing time on a crowded roster. She played in 25 games and averaged just 9.5 minutes, but in that opportunity contributed 4.2 points per contest.
