50 THE WOLVERINE DECEMBER 2022 BY ANTHONY BROOME H ead coach Kim Barnes Arico locked in the future of her program at the start of the early signing period Nov. 9. The Wolverines added a trio of contrib- utors to the program for the 2023-24 season in guards Macy Brown and Katy Eidle, and forward Taylor Woodson. Ac- cording to Premier Basketball, U-M's recruiting class ranks 18th in the nation. "We are really excited to officially wel- come these three to Michigan," Barnes Arico said in a release. "We were able to get three Midwest players to stay home, which is really exciting because they are in our footprint and their incredible fam- ilies can be part of their journey. All three of them are unbelievable students, as well as dedicated, disciplined basketball players. They fit what Michigan women's basketball is all about with their grit and toughness, while filling some needs of ours moving forward. They are all so ver- satile on the court with the ability to play multiple positions on both sides of the ball. Macy, Katy and Taylor will all be amazing additions to our program with their abilities on the court and their per- sonalities off the court." Brown is a 6-foot guard from East Grand Rapids High who averaged 20.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game during her junior season and is ranked No. 74 overall by ESPN. She earned Division 1 All-State first-team honors from the Michigan Associated Press following her junior year and was a second-team selection as a sophomore. "I feel like I have known Macy for the majority of her life, and I am so thrilled she will be joining our program," Barnes Arico said. "I love that she wanted to stay home to represent both her home state and the block M. The way our game keeps evolving, being able to have a 6-0 point guard out there with her level of playmaking is a game-changer. She is long and athletic with the ability to be disruptive on both the offensive and de- fensive ends. She is a smooth lefty with great vision and really fits our style of play. She brings such a high energy to everything she does and is someone you just want in your program." Brown joins her older sisters, Olivia (Valparaiso/St. Bonaventure) and Jillian (Northwestern) as Division I basketball players from her family. "I chose the University of Michigan because of the amazing atmosphere, energy and culture that the coaching staff creates," Brown said in the team release. "The team was so welcoming every time I visited, and it truly felt like home. I am also beyond excited to play in and for my home state." Eidle (5-foot-11) is the other guard signee in the class. She averaged 19.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.9 steals per game for Hersey High in Ar- lington Heights, Ill. She was named the state of Illinois' 2022 Gatorade Player of the Year and is a four-star recruit (ESPN) and ranked the No. 45 player in the coun- try by prepgirlshoops.com.
