NC State Stays In-State For Bowl Game NC State will not have to travel far to its 2022 bowl game. The Wolfpack will hit the interstate for a quick, 155-mile trip to Charlotte for the Duke's Mayo Bowl on Dec. 30, where the team will face a familiar foe: Mary- land out of the Big Ten. This will be the Wolfpack's fifth trip to Charlotte for a bowl game in the past 20 years. NC State played in the Meineke Car Care Bowl in 2005 and defeated South Florida, 14-0, before making two appearances in the re- named Belk Bowl in the 2010s, beating Louisville in 2011 but losing to Mississippi State in 2015. Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren shared his excite- ment to play a local bowl game. The game will be broad- cast on ESPN and is set for a noon kickoff. "This is a great opportunity for us to play in front of Wolfpack Nation one more time this season," Doeren said. "With the number of players we have from the state of North Carolina and the surrounding areas, it gives our players' families and friends an opportunity to travel to a great town for a great bowl. We are looking forward to a great week." NC State sits at 8-4 overall on the year, and the bowl contest will give the Pack a chance to win nine games for the fourth time in the past six seasons. Maryland comes into the matchup 7-5 after a 37-0 win over Rutgers to cap the campaign. That win snapped a four-game losing streak that included a close matchup with College Foot - ball Playoff-bound Ohio State. Before the Terrapins left the ACC for the Big Ten, NC State and Maryland played 70 times and split those matchups 33-33-4. Maryland won the most recent game, 41-21 in Raleigh in 2013. That was the only time Doeren faced the Terrapins prior to their departure from the conference. Doeren is 3-3 in bowl games at NC State.
