JANUARY 2023 THE WOLVERINE 43   FOOTBALL RECRUITING EJ's Ranking: High four-star (Top 125-150 Prospect Nationally) EJ's Evaluations: Game, Film EJ's Scouting Report: The complete package at the tackle position. Has the height and athleticism to excel as a left tackle at 6-foot-6, 305 pounds. Terrific feet and balance. Is an elite technician in pass protection and uses his long arms to keep pass rushers at bay. Focuses on minor details such as hand placement and kick step. Very cerebral player with the ability to diagnose different blitz disguises. A mauler in the run game, which could allow him to see the field early at Michi- gan as a taller interior offensive line- man. Has a mean streak and finishes blocks with authority. Filled out well in his lower half but can add plenty of weight and strength to his upper body. 3. DL ENOW ETTA COLLEYVILLE (TEXAS) COVENANT On3 Consensus Ranking: High four-star (Top 100-125 Prospect Na- tionally) EJ's Ranking: High four-star (Top 125-150 Prospect Nationally) EJ's Evaluations: Game, Film EJ's Scouting Report: A bigger edge prospect at 6-foot-5, 260 pounds that will play in the Mike Morris role. Could grow into a three-technique, but is at his best when standing up and rushing the passer. Still new to the game as— he didn't start playing football until his freshman season. Former basketball player with great feet and athleticism. A powerful presence off the edge that dominates against inferior competition. Had a monster senior year statisti- cally but will need to adjust to playing against high-caliber players at the next level. Does a great job against the run and staying disciplined in his scheme — e.g., following pullers and keeping contain. Still a bit raw from a technical standpoint and hasn't developed a com- plete arsenal of pass-rushing moves. 4. WR KARMELLO ENGLISH PHENIX CITY (ALA.) CENTRAL On3 Consensus Ranking: Mid four- star (Top 175-200 Prospect Nationally) EJ's Ranking: Mid four-star (Top 175-200 Prospect Nationally) EJ's Evaluations: 7v7 (Twice), Film EJ's Scouting Report: An explo- sive offensive weapon that can line up in the slot or on the outside. Not a true burner but is a playmaker with the ball in his hands and an expert at racking up yards after the catch. Shows his abil- ity to evade defenders and make things happen on film as a punt runner. Not tall or filled out at 6-foot, 186 pounds but plays physically and wins jump balls. Excellent catch radius for his size and does a fantastic job of high- pointing the ball. Not fully polished as a route runner but is very crafty and knows how to get open. Very productive as a junior and se- nior while playing quality competition in Alabama. Strong hands and reliable pass catcher. Could make an impact as a true freshman at Michigan. 5. RB COLE CABANA DEXTER (MICH.) HIGH On3 Consensus Ranking: Mid four-star (Top 175-200 Prospect Na- tionally) EJ's Ranking: Mid four-star (Top 175-200 Prospect Nationally) EJ's Evaluations: Game, Film EJ's Scouting Report: A valuable offensive weapon with 10.55 100-me- ter speed. Versatile enough to also play in the slot or on the outside as well as return kicks and punts. Not an every-down back but should com- mand double-digit touches later on in his career. A plus pass catcher that can create plenty of mismatches out of the backfield. A game-breaker as a pure ball carrier that can take a handoff to the house at any given moment. Runs hard between the tackles but north and south carries should be limited. Has sprinter-like build (6-0, 190). Will need to add more muscle mass but likely won't go over 205. 6. OL AMIR HERRING WEST BLOOMFIELD (MICH.) HIGH On3 Consensus Ranking: Low four-star (Outside of Top 300) EJ's Ranking: Mid four-star (Top 250-275 Prospect Nationally) EJ's Evaluations: Game (Four), Practice, Camp (Three), Film EJ's Scouting Report: A mauling interior offensive lineman, Herring is at his best when run blocking. Ex- tremely physical and buries defenders in the dirt. Loves serving up pancakes and plays with a nasty edge. Does a ter- rific job of latching, driving and playing through the whistle. Cole Cabana was named the 2022 Michigan High School Football Player of the Year by MLive. The 6-0, 190-pound running back racked up 5,781 total yards and 79 touchdowns in his career at Dexter (Mich.) High. PHOTO BY EJ HOLLAND
