12 THE WOLVERINE FEBRUARY 2023   INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS Dylan Ragusin, Michigan's starter at 133 pounds, was a 2021-22 NCAA qualifier. He has a career record of 41- 15 and is 9-2 this season through Jan. 12, helping lead a Wolverine squad aiming to defend last season's Big Ten championship. Here's more about Ra- gusin that you might not have known: Best Aspect Of Being From Elk Grove Village, Ill.: "It's a really close- knit community. Everyone knows ev- eryone, and everyone is super respect- ful, kind and proud to be from there." Favorite Restaurant In Ann Arbor: "When I can, I like going to Frita Ba- tidos." Best Meal He Can Cook By Himself: "I'm not a chef by any means, but I can cook a mean breakfast sandwich — like an egg, ham and cheese." Favorite Professional Athlete: "Mi- chael Phelps. He was just a winner. Every time he went out there, he com- peted hard and went out there to win — and you've got to respect that. I met him at the Michigan-Penn State [football] game." Sport He Enjoys Playing Besides Wrestling: "I like playing soccer and handball with the team before and after practice." Favorite Television Show: "'King- dom,' it's an MMA show. I also like 'Stranger Things' and the more main- stream TV shows." Favorite Movie: "The 'Rocky' series." Why He Chose Michigan: "I was ac- tually committed to Stanford my ju- nior year [of high school]. Wrestling was a huge part of their sports cut- ting — they cut a lot of sports — and that forced me to decommit from there and look at other options. [Head coach] Sean Bormet reached out to me, showed interest in me. I loved the campus. It's one of the best universi- ties in the world. You can't top it. And the athletics are second to none." What He Hopes To Do After Michi- gan: "To go on to try to make the Olympic team and go win Olympic and world medals." Favorite Memory At Michigan: "Winning the Big Ten championship as a team in 2022. It was the first time we did it in over 40 years." Overall Experience At Michigan: "Everyone is just so welcoming. It's just a great environment. It's so construc- tive and nice with wonderful people to be around. It's just a great atmosphere with a positive vibe. It's good to sur- round yourself with that, because I'm a huge believer in surrounding yourself with people like you want to become — and there are some great people that have come from Michigan." — Clayton Sayfie Redshirt sophomore 133-pounder Dylan Ragusin took third place at the 2021-22 Big Ten Tournament and reached the round of 12 at the NCAA Championships.
