58 THE WOLVERINE MARCH 2023 2023 FOOTBALL RECRUITING ISSUE official visits. Richardson and Hampton also have included the Wolverines in their top schools lists this winter. Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day team- mates Jordan Shipp and Channing Good- win were each offered during last year's spring evaluation period and made mul- tiple visits to Ann Arbor. Goodwin is the son of former Michigan offensive lineman and Super Bowl winner Jonathan Good- win. The family was at several games last season after coming up with quarterback Jadyn Davis and Shipp for the annual BBQ at The Big House. TIGHT END Commits: 1 Needs: 2 Michigan celebrated a commitment in early December when Bellevue (Wash.) High's Hogan Hansen, the On3 Consensus No. 17 tight end and No. 301 prospect nationally, shut down the process early. Now, Michigan is looking to add another player to the fold. At the top of the board is the No. 1 in- state prospect and No. 3 tight end nation- ally in Rochester (Mich.) Adams' Brady Prieskorn. The 6-foot-6, 235-pounder is a dynamic playmaker who lives just 45 minutes away from Ann Arbor. Prieskorn visited twice for game days last season and is planning to return once again for spring camp. A name that's rapidly climbing up the board is Ainsworth (Neb.) High's Carter Nelson, the No. 109 player in the country and No. 5 tight end among all juniors. Nel- son became the first player in Nebraska high school football history to rush, throw and catch at least 10 touchdowns apiece in a single season. Tight ends coach Grant Newsome visited Ainsworth during the January contact period and is quickly building a strong relationship. Michigan hosted Hiram (Ga.) High's Wal- ter Matthews, the No. 12 rising junior in the state of Georgia and No. 80 recruit nationally, for a visit for the Penn State game and is among the schools standing out for the No. 1 overall tight end the No. 34 player countrywide in Raymore (Mo.) Raymore-Peculiar's Jaden Reddell. February offers were sent out to Car- rollton (Ga.) High four-star Caleb Odom and Chattanooga (Tenn.) Baylor School's Max LeBlanc. OFFENSIVE LINE Commits: 1 Needs: 4-6 Avon (Ohio) High interior road grader Luke Hamilton, the No. 15 interior of- fensive lineman and No. 227 recruit in the country according to On3, verbally committed just one day following the win over Ohio State in Columbus last No- vember. The suburban Cleveland native has be- come an active recruiter by pitching other top offensive line targets to team up with him at Michigan. It starts with three close friends in Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward teammates guard Devontae Armstrong, tackle Deontae Armstrong and tackle Ben Roebuck. All three combine for nearly 900 pounds and have an average height of 6-foot-7. The Armstrong brothers, who are both On 3 Consensus four-stars with Deontae listed No. 269 and Devontae listed No. 299 nationally, and Roebuck, the No. 22 offensive tackle in the country, each vis- ited Ann Arbor in January and are plan- ning returns this spring. Guard and center recruits who have also expressed high interest in Michigan include Waukesha (Wis.) Catholic Memo- rial four-star prospect Donovan Harbour; Austin (Texas) Vandegrift four-star pros- pect Blake Frazier, the son of the former Michigan offensive lineman Steve Frazier; Frisco (Texas) Reedy four-star prospect Max Anderson; Loganville (Ga.) Grayson consensus four-star Waltclaire Flynn Jr., who visited during Michigan's Junior Day in January; Akron (Ohio) Arch Bishop Hogan's William Satterwhite; Ponte Ve- dra (Fla.) Beach three-star prospect Jake Guarnera; Reading (Pa.) Wyomissing three-star prospect Caleb Brewer, who also debuted on campus for the team's Junior Day event in late January; and Ol- ney (Md.) Good Counsel three-star pros- pect Kyle Altuner. Michigan is firmly involved with tackle prospects like Copperas Cove (Texas) High four-star prospect Michael Uini, who visited for the Junior Day event in January and is ranked as the No. 10 of- fensive tackle in the country; Kansas City (Mo.) Rockhurst four-star prospect An- drew Sprague, the No. 13 OT in the land; Warminster (Pa.) Archbishop Wood four- star prospect Kevin Heywood, the No. 16 recruit at the position; and Kankakee (Ill.) High's Marques Easley. DEFENSIVE LINE Commits: 2 Need: 3-4 Michigan already has two commits along the defensive line in three-star Cincinnati St. Xavier prospect Ted Ham- mond, On3's No. 32 defensive lineman nationally, and three-star Wallingford (Conn.) Choate Rosemary Hall prospect Manuel Beigel, who is listed as the No. 40 interior offensive lineman nationally by On3. Hammond is a high-floor take, while Beigel, who just moved from Germany last summer, brings plenty of upside. The Wolverines, however, need a true elite recruit in the interior of the defen- sive line and are hard at work on Chi- cago St. Ignatius' Justin Scott, the No. 16 overall recruit nationally. The mammoth 310-pounder is the priority at the posi- tion this cycle and has the Wolverines in his top group. Scott was originally set to make a de- cision in January but ultimately balked. That's good news for Michigan, which is working to get him back on campus this spring. Michigan is also in contention for an- other high-end 300-pound nose-type in Atlanta Pace Academy's Hevin Brown- Shuler, who is ranked as the No. 81 overall prospect and No. 10 defensive lineman nationally in the On3 Consensus. Brown- Shuler visited Michigan in January and may return for an official visit. Three-star Fair field (Calif.) Armijo prospect Jericho Johnson, a 6-foot-5, 320-pounder, is another name to know. On3 lists him as the No. 41 interior offen- sive lineman in the country. Michigan could also take another three- technique. The Wolverines are in a strong spot with players like West Bloomfield (Mich.) High's Brandon Davis-Swain, a Notre Dame decommitment and the No. 74 overall player and No. 9 defensive Olney (Md.) Good Counsel's Aaron Chiles, On3's No. 113 prospect and No. 11 line- backer nationally, is a top defensive target for U-M in 2024. He has visited campus pre- viously and is scheduled to return in March. PHOTO COURTESY ON3.COM
