4 THE WOLVERINE ❱ APRIL 2023 U-M FOOTBALL RECRUITING HEATS UP IN OHIO Through March 27, Michigan football's 2024 recruiting class had grown to nine commitments and an On3 Industry Team Ranking of No. 8. The U-M pledge list currently includes four players from the state of Ohio. The latest two to commit are national top-100 prospect and top-10 running back Jordan Marshall and 6-foot-7, 340-pound of- fensive tackle Ben Roebuck, who announced their decisions on back-to-back days in March. Wow!! I just watched his video interview and be- came an immediate fan of Jordan Marshall [from Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller]!! I hope this kid has an amazing career!! Sounds so much like Blake [Co- rum] … love recruiting good kids to the program!! — Go_Blue_In_NOVA Faith, family and football. This young man [Jor- dan Marshall] is everything you want to continue the culture and what makes Michigan the program it is. To have him follow Blake and Donovan [Ed- wards] is a real testament to what Mike Hart is building here. Can't wait to see him tote the rock! — Ballgame25 It's something that I have noticed over the years, Michigan has an extremely high hit rate with Ohio recruits. I love the fact that [co-defensive coordinator Steve] Clinkscale is getting us in with so many players, regardless of their star ranking. It seems like most of their players seem to outplay their star ranking. In my opinion it has been a strategic error on Ohio State's part to recruit so nationally when they have such good players in their own state. Those players feel overlooked, and we provide an outlet to prove the premier football power in their own state wrong. I hope they keep overlooking players and keep focusing nationally on players who don't understand this rivalry. We will keep loading up on Ohio kids. — Garbo_824 And coaches. I guess that's one redeeming qual- ity about Ohio along with producing our 2 Heisman winners of the modern era. — Pickles24 Does Jim Harbaugh own the state of Ohio? Peo- ple are asking. — Juwannawinitall Yep. There is legislation in place to change the name to Oharbo. — Sasquatch616 Correction, Clinkscale owns Ohio. — DeckardRunner DICKINSON, BUFKIN FACE TOUGH DECISIONS ON WHETHER TO STAY OR GO PRO Hunter [Dickinson]'s the key piece to build around. There's a trend this year of bigs coming back, so hopefully he follows the trend. It's going to take some funding to keep him here. I would sure hate to lose a consistent 18-20 points and 10 boards per game. There's no one on the team to replace him and I don't think they could get anyone from the portal. — garygoblue I believe a smart decision [for Hunter] is to hit the portal. Gives you options and you can see market value. If he likes Michigan and they will match or beat, you come back. If it's about win- ning, you see what roster moves they make to get the team better. If Kobe Bufkin leaves and Jett Howard's already gone, then the team needs to hit the portal hard for two legitimate scorers because they'd be losing the majority of the team right there, and that still wouldn't be enough I believe. — Jabart You handicap your ability to get top transfers to play with you if they can't count on you being there. If you like Michigan and are happy with the NIL, then you stick and start recruiting transfers … just like he tried to do last year with Terrence Shannon Jr. — Voltron Blue Hunter could leave a fantastic legacy with lots of Michigan records if he comes back. Crazy thing is he could actually be here two more years if he wanted. I think we could be a top-10 team if he and Kobe return. Sure hope he stays. Plus, he loves Michigan by all accounts and has a great relationship with Juwan Howard. — Dalemac It was obvious that Kobe and Jett were leaving when they sat out versus Vandy in the NIT. I'm sure both weren't 100 percent, but both could've played. — LandOLakesWolv Kobe could be a top-20 pick [in the NBA Draft]. Or come back to Michigan to be the man. The dream is to be in the league not to be the man at Michigan. … I believe Kobe could work his way up to a lottery pick. If money is the issue maybe an NIL package could get him back with the idea to get into the lottery with one more year of work. — AndItGoes4theWin April 2023 • Vol. 34, No. 10 ISSN 1048-9940 Editor John Borton TheWolverine.com Editor Chris Balas Football Recruiting Editor EJ Holland Staff Writers Clayton Sayfie, Anthony Broome Zach Libby, Drew Hallett Managing Editor Mark Panus Contributing Editors Matt Herb Steve Downey Chris Riffer Layout And Design Jeanette Blankenship Chris Miller Contributing Photographers Lon Horwedel, Per Kjeldsen Chad Weaver, Dominick Sokotoff Cover Photo Lon Horwedel Publisher Stu Coman Business Manager Linda Autry Circulation Manager Sarah Boone Advertising Sales Michelle DeLee-Hamilton 877-630-8768 Customer Service Cathy Jones, Laura Thornton, Crystal Clayton 800-421-7751 The Wolverine is published monthly.
