42 THE WOLVERINE ❱ APRIL 2023 J unior center Hunter Dickinson was named All-Big Ten for the third time in his career, with the media tabbing him to the first team and the coaches voting him second team. The 7-foot-1, 260-pounder was named an honorable mention All-American by the Associ- ated Press. Both sophomore guard Kobe Bufkin and freshman guard Jett Howard were named to the third-team All-Big Ten squad by the coaches and earned honorable mention nods from the media. Purdue center Zach Edey, the con- ference's player of the year, and In- diana forward Trayce Jackson-Davis were unanimous first-team selections. Iowa forward Kris Murray and Penn State guard Jalen Pickett were first- team choices from both the media and coaches. Illinois guard Terrence Shan- non Jr. landed on the coaches' first team, while Northwestern guard Boo Buie joined Dickinson on the media's list, which actually had six selections. During the regular season, Dickinson ranked fourth in the Big Ten in points (18.2), rebounds (9.0) and blocks (1.7) per game. He slotted fifth with a 56.0 field goal percentage, shooting 58.1 per- cent on twos and 42.3 percent on threes. Dickinson was a first-team honoree by the media and second-team selection by the coaches in 2021 and a second- team choice by both groups in 2022. The big man is one of 11 players in Michigan history to be named first-team All-Big Ten in at least two seasons, joining Bill Buntin (1963-64-65), Cazzie Russell (1964-65-66), Bob Harrison (1948-49), Rudy Tomjanovich (1969-70), Henry Wilmore (1971-72), Rickey Green (1976- 77), Mike McGee (1978, '81), Roy Tarpley (1985-86), Gary Grant (1987-88) and Glen Rice (1988-89). A Grand Rapids, Mich., native, Bufkin registered 13.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists per outing, playing both guard spots for the Maize and Blue. Michigan's youngest scholarship player averaged 20.3 points per game over his last six regular-season outings. Howard landed on the All-Big Ten Freshman Team in addition to his afore- mentioned honors. Head coach Juwan Howard's youngest son was second on the Wolverines with 14.2 points per game, with 23 double-figure scoring games. At the time, he needed just 5 more three-pointers to set the Michigan freshman record in three-point makes, held by Nik Stauskas (80, 2012-13), and finished the season 2 short of the mark with 78. A Chicago Simeon product and for- mer four-star recruit, Barnes appeared in just 15 games this past season, av- eraging 6.1 minutes per contest. The 6-foot-7, 200-pounder totaled 16 points, 17 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block and 3 turnovers, shooting 5-of-16 from the field, including 2-of-9 from three- point range. He appeared in two games as a freshman in 2021-22, totaling 6 minutes, but received a redshirt waiver from the NCAA. He has three years of eligibility remaining. Barnes didn't make an impact in his limited opportunity at Michigan. He missed the team's final 13 games, in- cluding the clash at Vanderbilt, due to a leg injury. — Clayton Sayfie ❱  MICHIGAN BASKETBALL Three Wolverines Land On All-Big Ten Teams Junior center Hunter Dickinson became the 11th player in Michigan history to be named first-team All-Big Ten in at least two sea- sons, averaging a team-high 18.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game.
