APRIL 2023 ❱ THE WOLVERINE 63 BY CLAYTON SAYFIE F ormer Michigan football players who are free agents this offseason are making plans for the future. Some have stuck with their current NFL teams, while others are on the move. Tight end Zach Gentry and safety Ja- brill Peppers have re-signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots, respectively. Gentry totaled 38 catches for 299 yards over the last two seasons, and the terms of his new deal are unknown. Peppers signed a two-year deal with the Patriots in 2022, and he recorded 60 tackles and 2 stops for loss last season. The 2023 campaign will be his second with the club. The Steelers previously opted not to pick up former U-M linebacker Devin Bush's fifth-year option. He hit free agency and has ended up with the Seat- tle Seahawks. Bush recorded 81 tackles, 2 tackles for loss and 2 pass breakups in 17 games with 14 starts a year ago. His former teammate, defensive end Chase Winovich, was on the market af- ter playing one season in Cleveland. He reportedly inked a one-year, $2 million contract with the Houston Texans. Winovich appeared in just eight games with 2 starts last season, with an injury holding him back, posting 20 tackles and 1 sack. Cornerback David Long Jr. spent his first four NFL seasons with the Los An- geles Rams, helping the team win Su- per Bowl LVI over the Cincinnati Ben- gals. He notched 21 tackles and 1 pass breakup in 12 games with four starts last season but may have more opportunity for playing time with his new team, the Las Vegas Raiders. Two big-name former Michigan standouts are still free agents — former Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Frank Clark and former Tennessee Titans left tackle Taylor Lewan. The Athletic ranked the pair 30th and 32nd, respec- tively, among free agents entering the cycle. As of March 27, the site consid- ered Clark one of the top 10 free agents still available. ❱  MICHIGAN IN THE PROS Wolverines Making Moves In NFL Free Agency Devin Bush recorded 81 tackles, 2 tackles for loss and 2 pass breakups in 17 games with the Pittsburgh Steelers a year ago.
